Sometimes my computer has a wobbly for no good reason and then when you try to type in " a @ appears and vice versa. When this happens the computer behaves as if I am a stranger and I can't get my desktop, only a very basic default. Using system restore solves the problem.
But why the changeover between " and @?

This is because on a US keyboard these 2 items are in the opposite places (i.e. " is above the apostrophe and @ is above the number 2). That is the link between the two. You will just need to set your language back to UK. You may also notice other changes, for example if you try to type "£" you will get "#".

It wont solve your computer throwing a wobbly but it sounds like your computer is starting up in safe mode, when it does this it loads the bare minimum of drivers and defaults, your computer is starting up in US keyboard mode, you can set the keyboard to UK mode in settings (and delete the US setting while you're there) but it sounds like you have another problem causing you computer to boot into safe mode and we need more details to help you with that

This happens because you have probably set your language to English (U.S) and not English (UK). To reset this simply go to your control panel and change your language to English (UK) and hopefully everything will be good again. :D
