I am driving on a US highway and notice that everybody is going above the posted absolute speed limit. If I stick to the speed limit, I would be obstructing traffic. So is it legal to follow the traffic even if it means violating speed limit?

so it would seem :) if you are in the slow lane and still causing a bottleneck it could cause a accident,

You're not allowed, BUT (and as you can see, a big but) no way you'll get arrested or anything if you're slower than the cars on the slow lane. Obviously this explanation won't cut in court or in front of the police officer, but the assumption is that they can't arrest everyone, so they'll only do so for the most craziest drivers. Therefore, by ranking a soft 10th or so on the crazy driving scale, I would say you're good.
I must mention I have never seen such conditions occur, but if u have then have fun. And don't 4get ur seatbelt.

You can follow in a reasonable manner. I wouldnt go much higher than the posted speed limit. Maybe 10-12 over. Other than that and Mr Radar Detector will see you. Try telling the judge that you were keeping up with the flow of traffic. remember, each MPH over the limit is more dollars out of the pocket.

Of course not!! The posted speed limits are posted for a reason, or else they would just let everyone "create" their own speed. If you go over the speed limit you are taking a risk. One time everyone was flying by me, and I was going about 70 in a 65, and I got pulled over. I asked a State Police Officer (not that one of course) why they pick who they pick... he said sometimes it is something that looks out of place, sometimes it looks suspicious, sometimes it is totally random. So don't risk it - don't speed.

I try to go no more than 5mph over the posted signs, but definitely no more than ten.

Oh, speeding is against the law, so don't get caught! LOL

as far as i know yes. Just try to be somewhere in the middle because when cops do pull people over they always seem to be the first in line or the tail-end!
