I am a nanny, and there are quite a few families in New England that use nannies. It CAN be extremely expensive, but it also could be affordable. If you have a live-in nanny it is cheaper, but the best solution would be a nanny-share situation. It's where you and another family in the area share a nanny. You can always have the kids in one house, you can switch by days, weeks, months etc. The nanny is happy because she still gets a good wage, and you'll be happy because it's cheaper for you. This is a much cheaper idea if you have multiple children. It's a fortune to put multiple kids in daycare. Also, the kids get to get out of the house with the nanny, and they get real one-on-one care. It's a much more flexible solution. ENannySource.com and GreatAupair.com are great web-sites that I have personally used and gotten jobs off of.

Cost depends on where you live, is it just nanny or nanny/ housekeeper, and is it live-in. Depending on how many kids you have it may be comparable to paying for day care, which is $150-300/week depending on where you live. I think there is a website you can look at that matchs people up with girls from Europe that want to come to the US and be live-in nannies. I think it is:

I am a nanny and have been one for 12 years, and w/ the same family. I lived in for a long time, then moved out when I started having my own. The kids are now 16 and 14! I bring my kids to work w/me.
Be careful and check them out really well. Make sure you are comfortable. I went to a agency. It can be expensive but worth it. These are your children and their safety don't be cheap!

I know people with Nannies and they are very expensive. Where I live they make $500-$700 a week and includes a room, food, time off and paid vacations. Most also want health insurance and taxes also have to be paid.

I have used one. It was GREAT. Not too bad. Depends on how you obtain her, through an agency, word of mouth, newspaper, etc. I paid about $300 per week and loved it.
