Good places near the Marriot Marquis (may or may not be where you are staying) are:
-The View (top floor of the Marriot Marquis with a beautiful view and rotating dining room-perfect for cocktails)
-Roxy's (giagantic sandwiches with enough luch meat for 3 meals)
-Sardi's (think celebs and caricatures)
There are so many small good restaurants featuring Italian or French cuisine that at anyone of them you are sure to get a great meal. Just get off Broadway and walk about a block.

Ruby Foo's is in Times Square and the food is pretty good. I also recommend Ida Mae's, which is just a few blocks away. Applebee's is always reliable. Metrazur, Michael Jordan's and Cafe Centro in Grand Central Station are also very good. You can walk there in 10 minutes. Try opentable.com for more restaurants. All of the restaurants there are pretty good.

I have to say if you plan to dine at places near by...most likely they are for tourist and not "real" good...
I would recommend HARU Japanese restaurant @ 43st & B'way..very good and fresh sushi, Virgil's @ 44 st & 7 ave...yummy hearty BBQ, The steakhouse (forgot name) in the Westin Hotel @ 43st & 8 ave....serves juicy tender meats.
* There are lots of good restaurants around there depending on your budget and cusine preference. BUT note that 90% of the restaurant around there would serve pretty good food otherwise they would not be able to survive there.

TRY GOING TO THE SOUTH STREET SEAPORT TO UNOS PIZZA. AFTER EATING ONE OF THEIR PIZZAS YOU WILL NEVER WANT TO GO BACK TO DOMINOS, PIZZAHUT, OR PAPA JOHNS. ALSO YOU CAN ALSO ENJOY A BEAUTIFUL WALK AT SOUTH STREET SEAPORT.
