Is there a verse that has grabbed hold of you and keeps hold of you since the beginning of your walk?

What about a new verse that God has laid upon your heart lately?

How are you applying this verse to your life today?

Michael, what verse are you speaking of? Can you please give an example? Has anyone ever shared the 20/20 rule with you? It is always important when trying to understand a verse that you consider also the 20 verses before and the 20 verses after. This way you won't misunderstand a verse out of context. :)

Michael, Of course you were referring to the flood in Noah's day, but considering your overall impression of the story is not consistent with the entire story of Noah and the flood, then it is not unreasonable for one to ask you what verse(s) you are referring to. When one is sharing such an opinion as yours on the Lord, God Almighty, it might be wise for you to have some Scripture to really back your opinion up. It would also be wise for you to have a full understanding of all related verses as well since a well read person on the subject would most likely be able to debate your opinion into oblivion. Perhaps you are in need or more research since you are only able to allude to certain aspects of the story rather than the whole story?.?.

Ronin, Yes! Those verses are encouraging though sad in many ways. It is sad that the ruler of Egypt was so cruel to the Israelites and so stubborn toward God that God had to give Pharaoh a taste of his own medicine by resorting to this.

This is an example that shows how God will defend His people and that He is a patient God who allowed Pharaoh so much time to repent and LET GOD'S PEOPLE GO, but alas, Pharaoh would not and God was left with no choice but to force Pharaoh's stubborn hand. Still, Pharaoh refused!
May your heart never be so hard that God, in all his mercy and grace and patience be left with no choice but to lift his holy hand of protection from you and those you love that He might defend His people against the enemy of their souls the way he defended Israel against the wicked ruler of Egypt!

Michael, thank you for finding the verses that you have led you to believe God is nothing more than a mass murderer. You might want to review what I shared with Ronin (Above) because this person too was concerned about God's judgment upon the "first born" in Egypt. When one only reads the 'judgment' that has been passed down and not the WHOLE TRIAL leading up to the judgment, it is indeed very easy to consider the sentence to be cruel and unusual punishment. However, if you read the whole story and all that man had done to corrupt God's perfect creation... this would shed light on God's mercy and patience as well as his ability to pass a swift and even harsh judgment on the world. Please do read the WHOLE story and not just the part about the judgment being cast. There is a reason a judge hands down a sentence, even in today's courts. Do take time to know the case "all together" before you decide if the judge was wrong or right.

You would rather that God created a bunch of robots who were pre-programmed to worship and obey Him? This way free-will would not have had an opportunity to mess things up?
God gave man free-will and with that gift, man has sought to serve himself again and again rather than the Creator who created him. This has brought about a series of cause and effects that = total decay and destruction of our earth and the human race, but God in His mercy has provided a way of escape and has defended those who have used their free will to choose Him rather than deny Him. He is just!
That a judgment could be so horrible is indicative of the nature of the crime man has committed against God. Instead of looking at the judgment, look at the crime that warrants the judgment. The judgment need not be, except man has brought it about himself.
But instead thank God in His mercy that he has provided a way of escape through Jesus Christ, the final atonement for all man's sins, if only they would choose Him.

Personally, I like the part where an angry God destroys all of humanity with a flood except for one family. Humanity he created and gave the gift of free will.

Just cracks me up that you quacks believe that.

I'm talking about the Noah's ark story. If you didn't recognize it from that description, you haven't read your bible enough.

I alluded to the important aspects; God, omniscient, created humans, so he knew they would do what they did. Then, angry, he destroyed the majority of them with a flood. There is no reasoning that supports this. The ends do not justify the means.

Here's a verse for you: Genesis 6:7:

"And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them."

God repented doing something when he knew beforehand what would happen?

Or how about this: Genesis 6:13:

"And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth."

God responds to violence with... more violence?

And the grand finale: Genesis 7:23:

"And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark."

God is the best mass murderer out there.

There is no excuse for murder on that scale, no matter what 'trial' you think has occurred. Especially when you consider that God created humanity and gave them free will, and, being omniscient, knew that they'd do what they did.

It's much the same with the story of Egypt; who is God to pick sides and favor one, and send destruction to another? It was God who hardened Pharaoh's heart, and not the other way around. You're stories are pathetic, violent, and disgusting.

It's the whole chapter of Psalms 103. But especially, " Bless the LORD, oh my soul....who heals all of your diseases, who rescues your soul from the pit, who crowns you with loving kindness so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's....As far away as the east is from the west, so far has he removed my sins from me...

I know that God is also a God of judgment and justice, but every day I am struck all over again by His mercy and loving kindness, and by the fact that his corrections (which are also part of his love) are always as gentle as I will allow them to be.

For the last few years, one of the key verses that have come to me again and again is Ephesians 4:15, Speak the truth in love, and grow up in all ways in Christ who is the Head (of the church)...[paraphrased]. I get an opportunity to practice this one every time I open my mouth to talk to vendors, or sales people, or my husband....in other words, every day.

That's also one reason I always end my Y!A answers the same way. If I can't genuinely feel like I am hoping the best for anyone that I talk to, I know I need an attitude check. I have not posted a few answers that I have written because I realized that I had a bad attitude. Honesty isn't always pleasant to hear, but for me, it should not be overly sarcastic or belittleing. There is enought ill-will in the world, without me adding to it in the guise of speaking the 'truth'.

Hoping the best for you...

There are 3 together. They show me that god does not truly love everyone equally and feels that the ends justify the means:

Exodus 11:5 And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.
11:6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.
11:7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel

Matt. 6:33. The Lord audibly spoke these words to me as I was reading my bible one night. (He quoted the scripture, not the ch.and verse.)I am learning that in all that I do, if I put Him first He will supply ALL of my needs. I remind myself daily, when things aren't going so well, have I sought the kingdom of God, first? Is God priority in my life? My relationship with Jesus has really become intimate since I have learned to seek His face concerning my everyday life..... I love the Lord!!

"I am the living bread which came down from Heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever and the bread that I will give is my Flesh, for the life of the world".....and the Jews asked, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"...and Jesus said, ..."Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you....He that eateth this bread shall live forever" John 6:48-59

So what is this bread that Jesus speaks of?
At the last supper Jesus institutes the Holy Eucharist and says, "This is my Body....and This is my blood."

John 3:16-17

Everyone knows John 3:16...17 God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but to save it. WOW!!!

There actually a couple of passagaes (false prophets)...the first is in 2 John:

7 For many imposters (seducers, deceivers, and false leaders) have gone out into the world, men who will not acknowledge (confess, admit) the coming of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) in bodily form. Such a one is the imposter (the seducer, the deceiver, the false leader, the antagonist of Christ) and the antichrist.

8 Look to yourselves (take care) that you may not lose (throw away or destroy) all that we and you have labored for, but that you may [persevere until you] win and receive back a perfect reward [in full].

9 Anyone who runs on ahead [of God] and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ [who is not content with what He taught] does not have God; but he who continues to live in the doctrine (teaching) of Christ [does have God], he has both the Father and the Son.

10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine [is disloyal to what Jesus Christ taught], do not receive him [do not accept him, do not welcome or admit him] into [your] house or bid him Godspeed or give him any encouragement.

11 For he who wishes him success [who encourages him, wishing him Godspeed] is a partaker in his evil doings.

and then 2 Corinthians 11:4:

4For [you seem readily to endure it] if a man comes and preaches another Jesus than the One we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the [Spirit] you [once] received or a different gospel from the one you [then] received and welcomed; you tolerate [all that] well enough!

I completely agree with you on the 20/20 rule!

As for applying to my life...I will always keep myself on guard for deceivers!

God / Jesus ROCKS!

Matthew 7:15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves."

It reminds me every day of false prophets like Joseph Smith, David Koresh, and Mohammad. I praise the Lord they have been recognized
