This is usually a sign that the dog is not getting enough nutrition in his food. A dog will eat his (and other dogs poop) in search of minerals and undigested food. Try switching to a more nutrious food or adding a puppy supliment to his food. This habbt needs to be broken!!!!!! Your dog could get worms if not corrected.

As disgusting as this is to humans, it is a common behavior in animals. The mother dog cleans up after her puppies to keep their nesting site clean with no odors to attract predators. The pup sees this and often mi micks his mother. There is also the fact that some of the food they eat is not fully digested and they actually re-cycle it by eating their poop. This is a common behavior as long as it does not go on to eating other dogs poop.
There is a product that you can get from your Vet that is called Forbid and there is another that you can get at a pet store called Deter.
These products have no taste when they are eaten but they coat the poop with a terrible taste that the dog does not like. You may also try a spoonful of pumpkin (canned) in the pups food. This also has something in it that dogs do not like when it is in their poop.
When your pup does his business and he goes after it, scold him with a sharp growly sound
and re-direct him to another area. He should eventually out grow this behavior. It is really gross to us but in the animal kingdom there is a reason for most of the behaviors.

The vet explained to me that the reason they do this is because there is nutritional value in the poop. Don't ask me, I just report what I was told. If this is a concern for you, which it was for me as well, then pop him on the nose with a newspaper whenever you catch him doing it and he will eventually grow out of it and stop.

this is very normal most dogs do this my vet said that its because they feel they need to clean up. they recommended to clean the poop up as soon as they go even outside. I think they like the taste because any dog that has been around my horse tries to eat the horses poop it seems to be very normal

There is stuff you can by at Petco/Petsmart to put in his food that will deter him form doing this.
Most dogs eat feces because they are bored and it is the newest and therefore the most exciting thing in the room to play with. Keep him busy and he will lose interest.

There is a tablet that you can get at petsmart that makes feces taste disgusting to dogs. We have a lab that did the same thing and the pills work. Anyone that works there can tell you the name of it.

Lots of puppies do. You can get special pills to give them that will make the poo taste bitter and horrible to them. Or make sure to pick up after it right away.

Could be many reasons. Lack of something in diet and bordem are the most common.
