Snipers are first choosen because of their profound marksmanship. They are selected from the best the Corps has to offer. Many snipers are marksmen competitors, which already seperates the men from the boys, because of the stress of competitive shooting. A successful sniper has already proven his stealth under stressful conditions.

Accuracy in shooting is not the only criteria for a successful sniper, therfore he is required to go through snipers school where he learns the fundamentals a sniper confronts in completing an assignment.

Survival in the wilderness, isolation, discipline, care for equipment, survival gear, weather survival, these plus many other factors confronted by snipers, are taught in sniper school. He is considered a qualified sniper, once this training is completed.

Education and IQ do not necessarily play a major part in the success of a top notch sniper. The most proficient sniper ever to ply his profession for the Corps, was a country boy from Arkansas, his name was Carlos Hathcock who during the early years of the Vietnam war was so successful as a sniper, that the Viet Cong put a bounty on him and nick-named him 'White feather' because of the feather he wore on his head cover. Hathcock had 82 confirmed kills, as a Marine Corps sniper during the Vietnam conflict.

To HELO PILOT, who is full of bull sh it, Hathcock's highest rank was S/sgt. His confirmed kills were 93.

Its part of the head game they play with all of us as we go through training. "Your Part of the Best" Army Rangers Navy Seals and Marine Snipers. You have to remember when most of were going through training we were just kids. Its a lot easier for a kid to go out there and do what they have to if they think there the best and unstoppable (gonna come back alive).
Don't know about Marine Snipers first hand but I can tell ya Rangers die.

It is all about where you are when the mission is called. I think the jar heads are better at getting to the target but the Army snipers are a tad more accurate.

That depends on who you are asking. If you ask a Special Forces sniper (or a friend or family of), he will be the most accurate and deadly. If you ask an SAS sniper (or a friend or family of), he will be the most accurate and deadly. Etc, etc....

They're the deadliest. Not doubt about it. The most accurate? Doubtful, unless their targets are their allies. We Canadians have lost soldiers to the US's friendly fire. With friends like these, who needs the Taliban?
