If there is a cattle suppy store nearby, or a Farm&Fleet, or something like that, you need to go there and pick up the following supllies...
Nitrofurozone
Oxytetracycline (injectable for cattle)
Sterile Syringes
Cut N Heal

You should also buy a couple of tubes of triple-antibiotic ointment from your local Walgreens.

Give the Oxy by injection, .every day for three days. Read the instructions for dosages (by weight). Make sure you disinfect the skin and fur where you give the injection with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol first. Give the injections intramuscularly, preferably the meaty part of the back legs. If you don't want to give injections, you can buy antibiotics for aquariium use. These pills will work fine, but the injectable is better.

Clean the wound thoroughly and keep it free of debris and dirt. You can take a spray bottle filled with Hydrogen Peroxide and spray it into the site to wash the gunk out. If there is any dead tissue near the site, use the Nitrofurazone. That will help clear the dead tissue. Or, you can cut the dead tissue out with a sterile surgical scalpel or scissors. You can recognize dead tissue because it will be black in color. It will also give off a bad smell. If all of the tissue is a healthy pink color, then you are home free. In that case, just use the 3X antibiotic ointment. If the cut is deep. Fill the cut with it.

If the cut is more than twelve or so hours old, it is too late for stitches. Don't bother putting them in. The cut will eventually heal as long as you keep it clean and don't allow it to get infected again. It will just take longer and the scar will be bigger. If the wound is still infected, the last thing in the world you want to do is stitch it.

You would be best off to get your dog to a vet. If you don''t have money to spare for a vet, maybe a friend could help you out. I would normally say that if you don't have money to spare for a vet, you shouldn't have a dog, but I understand that you rescued this dog from an idiot. God Bless you for that.

Good luck.

Depending on the size of it...if its a huge gaping wound that needs stitches...you really need to get the dog in...infection can set in and make the dog sick.
If its not as bad...use hydrogen peroxide and clean it really really good. Which means keep pouring it on, wiping the wound out after letting the peroxide foam a moment. Q-tips are the best instead of something else. After at least 4 rinses...dry it and put some neosporin on it. You will have to find a way to keep the dog from licking it however. A band-aid obviously won't work lol. You can simply make the dog lay down for awhile while the neosporin sets in.
Thats what we used to do for ours whenever something happened. If its full of puss though you really need to stay on top of cleaning it and keep the dog from licking it at this point.

Good luck.

Ok, get some antibotic ointment and be sure to clean the wound very carefully. Clean the dressing often and reapply the ointment. If the wound is in a place that can be licked by the dog you may want to consider a collar to stop that for a week or two. Remember, keep it clean and keep it covered. Salt water is not very good at wound cleaning, I would peroxide. Salt can burn an open wound.

get some hydrogen peroxide and pour over the wound, 2-4 times day. . .

and probably some antibiotic ointment. . . . there should be
some kind of 'community vet' in you area or call the ASPCA
or the Humane society, they can usually put you intouch with
a vet for free or some funds for a vet visit or they may be able to treat the dog there at their facility for no charge. . . good luck
