The people who claim to see them believe them &those who have don't neccessrayrily belive in them.Well actually ghost are spirits of dead people or poltergiests. If you try to through stuff on any grave or do anything else it's spirit will haunt you.My mother has had this expirience when she was small. So do many other people have.So now you EXACTLY what a ghost is.And ....... hey i just saw something.............awwwwww noooooooooo!!!!gotta go this ghost is chasing me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not that they search out those places to dwell. It's that the general public fears them. So when a haunting is noticeable people tend to stop going there, stop living there, avoid that place like the plague.

Ghosts don't eat food.

those places hold nothing more than memories
these memories can appear as they once were ... just an energy remaining
ghosts are not consious ... they do not and can not communicate and need no substance to survive
and eventually that memory will play out like a recording
ghosts are not spirit
spirit are quite different and would not hang around in places when they have so much more to do

Ghosts are everywhere. They do not have to have these places and they are dead so they do not eat or drink. Some ghost experiences can be visions of a parallel universe.
