It is a broad range from about 450 to 950 calories per hour.
Depends on how fast you are swimming, what stroke, and how much you weigh.
The website below has tables that will let you figure out what the number is for you.

Hi
Am not sure how much excately u will loose for 25 min of swimming. There are various factors which are considered like your weight, the no. of sets, distance and in the pace u swim.
But i would say if u swim at intervals u would defenitely burn calories coz u will have that constant speed every yard u swim.
And swimming at one stretch for 25 minutes will make u more tired and will break that concentration.
.
For ex: A 145-pound woman will burn about 130 calories during 15-minute session at a distance of 500-yards.

Ok, here is the tricky part. Swimming itself is a great muscle workout. However, if you are looking for something just to burn calories (lose fat), then swimming is not the best thing to do. I grew up a swimmer and still coach. I think swimming is great, and it can get your muscles strong, and your heart in shape. However, as a strictly fat burning exercise, it is not very good. However, swimming at a moderate pace for 25 min is probably 300 calories, give or take...

This will depend on several variables, but
1. If you weigh 155 pounds AND
2. Swim freestyle light to moderate
You can expect to burn approximately 235 calories in 25 minutes.

Actually, swimming burns more calories than any other sport. For every hour of moderate freestyle swimming, about 2000-3000 calories are burned.

Swimming is considered to be the very BEST all around excercize for not only burning calories, but getting good muscle tone.
The amount of calories would depend on your speed or effort that you're using, and it is irrelevant. Just do it, you'll LIKE the results!

You burn 215 calories swimming leisurely. That's 503 an hour!

It depends on which style you are swimming and if you have a good rhythm of how to swim (arms and legs movement and breathing). As far as I know "butterfly" - some may call it "dolphin style" - burn the most because it's exhausting to do it. But crawling is also very high in burning calories.

Depends on how much you weigh and how hard you swam!
For instance, if you weighed 130lb and swam leisurely, you'd burn about 350 PER HOUR. Swimming vigorous 590 an hour... (treading water vigorously is about the same burn!). Butterfly is the hardest and burns the most.
