The other day I saw my 17 year old son in the bathroom "touching" himself while looking at Teenbeat's photo shoot of those cute little girls from the band, Hanson. I know they're older now, but the pictures were from some years ago when they were just young girls. Even if they are older now, does that make it ok to look at their earlier pictures that way?

First of all are you sure that was the only picture on the magazine? The reason I ask is that Hanson are a group of boys they had haircuts back in the day that made them resemble girls.
And it is perfectly normal to do that sort of stuff either way its part of growing up and experiencing the thing that is appealing most to young boys which is sex. Its normal mom so calm down !

It's natural for boys and men to masturbate - it's a part of their lifestyle - and even though sometimes we can't understand it - they really do need to do this biologically. They cannot help it. Yes, he's 17 but he's still a kid. I would not worry about it too much and try to give him some privacy. You may want to tell him (or have a man that you trust talk to him) that while it's OK to fantasize about women, it's definitely not OK to treat women as objects in real life. Tell him that as he gets older, he needs to focus his attention and desires on women his own age - because once he turns 18 - he will not be allowed to date or have sex with women who are younger. It's not acceptable. Good luck.

Ummm........ no offense but HANSON is BOYS. First of all, before you freak, are you sure it was Hanson? Secondly, if you are, sit down and talk to your son. If he is gay..... its not the end of the world. It may take time to get use to but life goes on. One of my sisters best friends is gay. She is still best friends with him and nothing has changed. Try to be understanding. If you approach it the wrong way you will make him feel bad and then he won't talk to you about anything anymore. Good Luck. If you need any more advice e-mail me.

First of all, the Hanson's are males. Secondly, masturbation is completely normal for young men. It is completely health and normal unless he is doing it so much that he is physically injuring himself. It can also be very damaging if you react very negatively. Ensure he has plenty of privacy and respect it. On the fact that he is looking at pictures of males, he may simply be experimenting, but it is very likely that he is gay. Women are much more flexible in their sexuality then men. It is okay for your son to be gay, just give him as much love and support as possible, and he will turn out just fine as an adult. My parents were very loving and supportive when I came out, and we have grown much closer because of it.

The HANSONS were boys. Yikes, your son might be gay. Double check to make sure that is what he was looking at. If so, talk to him about his sexuality. Do not get mad at him if he is gay.
