What is the definition of atheist? And how is it that you have decided to brand yourself as one? Is it because you are tired of the hypocricy of religious order, or is it because you truly believe there is no higher power? And do you know where the term atheist came from. It came from the reformers. Basically to be an atheist was to question the concepts of how religion believes in god. Atheism was used to define christians, jews catholics. Each sect would call other religions this if they didnt believe in their faith in it's entirety.Maybe it is not that you dont believe in something higher. Maybe it is that you believe in something higher than what men try to force upon you. I call myself neither. Because you do not have to categorize yourself just so that someone can understand who you are to them. But who you are to yourself. I say I am all an atheist, a buddhist, a christian, a paganist. Because it is all the same.

I call myself an atheist because it the accepted term for someone who does not believe in a higher power. I also call myself an evolutionist because I belive in that. It doesn't matter at all who coined the term.

Hmm, how could I describe it. I don't believe in any religion that exists in this world. I was born as a Christian and I have a conception of God, which I cannot deleted because I was raised as a Christian. If I would try to delete conception of God I would probably hate God and Christians, which I don't.
I think it exists some kind of superpower, but I don't care about it and I'm 100% sure that I don't need to care about it. All religions are old fashioned and do not answer the modern questions and problems which modern people have. Religion is not for me. I must be concern about my own growth and evolution and not about God.

You seriously misunderstand language. An atheist is simply someone who is not a theist; someone who does not believe in any God, Supreme Being, or higher power. There are no beliefs that go along with atheism, because it is merely a lack of belief.

In as much as I was not around to see how everything came into being (and neither were you),I say, "I don't know ..... YET!" To assume that some god, my less than intellectual ancestors made up, instantaneously farted the universe into being, is absurd. I do not subscribe to any of the currently popular "ultimate" truths, which makes me an Atheist.

Theists believe in a God or gods but atheists don't share their belief, that's all there is to it,
Some people are anti-theists and they actively are against theistic religion.
Atheists dont think it is a positive thing to be theist nor do they think unreasoned faith is something to be proud of so it's useful to be able to say I am not theist I am atheist, we need to be able to disassociate ourselves from something we may see as worthless and deluded.

Positive atheist=someone who states that that there definitely is no God. Weak atheist=disbeliever in the proposition that God or Gods exist. Disbelief is to question nothing and is the soundest from a philosopohical viewpoint. Any believer who attacks weak atheism only displays their ignorance of the fundamental principles of philosophical debate.

The defintion of athest is "someone who lacks a beleif in gods".

I call myself one because I don't believe in the arguments for gods that people have provided me.

I believe in a higher power in the daytime. "the sun" at night it is a lower power. lol

I believe that nature is the result of mathematics and not some invisible being who loves everyone yet who drowns babies and tortures people in hell for simply following their concience. To me that is irrational and just makes no sense.

Atheist simply means, "I do not believe a Supreme Being exists."

There is nothing else required and atheism is not a belief system whereby atheists have anything else in common.
