As someone said earlier, if the persons size means that they occupy two or more seats they should pay for the additional seats if the company could have filled the other seat(s), but not if the vehicle is not full. BTW when you buy a train or bus ticket, you are not buying a seat, just transportation. Maybe the double sized recumbent could avoid being charged for the additional pew by allowing two standing passengers to have the seats and they could stand?!!!
Maybe the person could avoid this if they could prove that their girth is due to a medical condition.
It's a hard one this, I can almost hear the jack-boots being pulled on by the slim Jim's, just remember health fascists, we could charge you more tax in the UK for living too long and costing a fortune when your senile and dribbling in a care home.

I can see both sides of the story. Part of me says that yes, if the person takes up more than one seat than they should be charged for that seat; because the plane, bus...etc would lose the fare for the extra seat taken but not paid for if they didn't require it. The other part of me says, its not fair because some people really do have a medical condition and they can't help it. How would you feel if it was someone you loved having to endure the embarrasement of paying for two seats? So to me I guess I am in the middle.

Airlines have been known to charge double for some grossly overweight people. This is because they do not fit into one seat and therefore have to take up two. Two seats double the fare! I think that is fair enough.
Buses, trains etc cram as many people as possible into their vehicles. As long as they can cram another passenger in they will. They charge you to get on, not to have a seat. Why should larger people have to pay more?

Good to see you have stopped asking these stupid questions about Scottish people. You are welcome back if you can take getting your erse spanked again. But, you really do have a problem. Picking on people because of their size, the way they look or the job they do isn`t smart, it isn`t even funny. You really need to get a life. Why don`t you post a picture of your coupon next to your name Sadman. That way we can post all the physical imperfections within your features. No one is perfect, only an idiot or a fool thinks otherwise.
Posted 2 hours after the above answer. Just had cfoster@btinternet email me to call me a gay git. very funny wee man you are wasted on this forum. But as I said before don`t email with your childish little one liners. Post a photo to the forum so we can all see what a PERFECT species of the human race you are.

If a person has to take up more than one seat, then yes they should be charged for two seats. But they should be tested by chairs before making the decision to charge the person more. I personally don't like to feel closed into a space by having someone elses body pressed up next to mine. but, in the same aspect, should we charge super thin people half fair?
its a two way street and this question could pose a lot more questions than answers also it could cause some to even report the question for being racist or what not.

It shouldn't be based strictly on weight but size. If your size requires you to use two seats then you pay for two seats.
If this same person goes into a restuarant and buys a meal but it doesn't fill them up, is the restaurant going to give them another meal free? Of course not, the individual will pay for it.
We are all responsible for paying for what we use and consume.
It has nothing to do with discrimination or being mean.

stop calling people fat,it sounds rude but more unkind.
no they should not be charged more for the size they are,if i'm skinny will i be charged less,or if i'm short will they let my tall tree trunk hubby on for taking up my space.no no no
it don't go that way all the big size people do is travel in real uncomfort down to not having enough space.
my heart does go out to them because they are a few steps behind me down to the size you see.give them a chance and don't have to be rude.

To be blunt - it depends on how big they are. If they are taking up 2 seats then they should have to pay for 2 seats (in the same way a family has to pay for the seat of a young toddler).

No fat people should NOT have to pay for 2 seats... They are still only one person, 1 heart-2arms-2legs-1head etc. If this is the case, then a really tiny person should only pay for 1/2 seat, as they only take up half the space....!

Maybe they should charge more for disabled people in wheelchairs too, or lets charge blind people for bringing guide dogs onto public transport....oh yes and prams and push chairs, lets charge for that also......sigh.....can't you see, it just opens a whole can of worms and is discrimination. HTH.
