I have tried and tried to live a palin, simple life but things like money, personalities, relationships keep me from being where I want to be. I think that my ideal life is doable but every time I get close to the ideal I have in my heart something happens and I have to move in another direction. What can I do to be the person I long to be, a writer, musician, gentle person, who lives his life in harmony with the natural world

Because once you attain it you may want to control it, tame it, domesticate it and make it replicable. Ergo, you turn it into something far from being just a simple life.

Firstly, I think you are way too hard on yourself. I think just working hard at those things everyday shows what kind of person you really are. Secondly you are fighting the enevitable. This world is not gentle or peace loving or in harmony with anything. It is fast, money hungry, angry sometimes, war filled. It is impossible not to notice these things when you live in them everyday. Unless you move to the Himalayas with the monks you can't possibly ignore it. You are a good person. Do you have Jesus? He will help you get to where you need to be✟.
Have a nice day!

I know what you mean...this is all I have been after since I can remember....One by one I have pushed aside all the things that do not matter to me....I wound up having two children in the midst of this which really complicates this(I love them I do), my husband is 16 years older than me. One of the big pluses to that (and I love him too) is that if things work out eventually I will be able to be living alone...in the woods....with no one...that's what I have always dreamed about.
In the meantime, I strive to live on as little as possible. I strive to produce as much of the 'stuff' I need myself. My wants are almost none existant.
It can be like doing battle in a strange way(for me because I feel peace about who I am and where I'm headed)
Do the people in your life understand this about you? Do they support this? How can you encourage them to see things from your point of view?
I don't know if I made any sense to you....most people don't think I make much sense...until they get to know me(I don't give many that chance) but when they do it becomes clear.

It isn't impossible to attain. I have done it.

You say that "things like money, personalities, relationships keep [you] from being where [you] want to be." That is your problem right there: you think these outside things are forcing you into something. What you're doing is letting these outside things influence you. Once you realize that you have the problem, then you can seek to solve it. As long as you are putting it onto externals, it won't ever get solved.

Liberation begins with a thorough housecleaning of one's own heart, mind, and soul.

Harmony is being okay with whatever is happening, even when it doesn't aling with a mental picture of what should be. Complexity and simplicity are both of the mind. Desires tend to complicate things. The desires to be loved, appreciated, adored, admired, skilled, respected, successful or understood - while these may seem to be honest and innocent - are poison to one's state of mind because they are complex. Simplicity is simplicity of desire of wants and needs. This requires a very honest and thorough examination of ones values. But if you do this, you will see where the complexity lies and when that is seen, there is simplicity. There is no 'natural world' my friend. The world is within.

You need to meditate and calm the mind first, then fill your heart with love and respect for every and all things including your enemies, if you have any. Continue to meditate upon the Supreme as often as you can and you will achive calmness and simplicity in your life.

Trust in God.

Be thankful and content with all God gives you and with all you have.

Don't buy into the lie that you have to "Have it All" to be happy.

Those who get everything do not always HAVE everything.

The people who are the most happiest are not the people that get the most out of life BUT make the most out of their live.
