I am so glad your BF is attending with you that is so important! Don't be nervous-this is an amazing time in your life-I remember being scared of the unknown but the lamaze classes do help. You gain knowledge, meet others also expecting and learn some very important skills for birth. Set back and take it all in. Congrats on you baby!

It is sort of like a cross between health class in high school, and a business meeting. Nothing to be nervous about. They normally go around the room and make you tell something about yourself (which I always hate) and show you some movies which are rather bizarre and nothing like what labor and delivery is actually like, unless you want to have your baby like some of these freaks in the films. lol. They will give you a binder with all kinds of information about the whole process. The will also show you some of the tools that they may or may not use duing your labor and pass them around the room so you can see and feel them. Assuming you are taking this class at the hospital, at some point you will get a tour of the labor/delivery department and an operating room in case you should need a c-section. Your b/f should be there since assuming he will be your coach, the class is probably more for him than you and you will do some breathing/coaching exercises together. Take a lot of what you hear with a grain of salt. I dont mean to be negative, but I really did not enjoy the class and only took it because my dr. kept riding my back to do it. I really did not learn anything that I did not know before I went to the class except how different all of us were in terms of what we all wanted to happen during labor.

Don't be nervous. They'll go over the hospital procedures and birhting rooms... what you can expect to see in the rooms so you get familiar and not get overwhelmed by equipment. They'll suggest a list of things you'll need for the hospital stay and the actual birth. You'll watch a video of an actual birth so you know what to expect. They'll teach you about the different phases of labor and delivery... how much time it generally takes... and what your options are. They'll discuss pain medication, C-sections, recovery, nursing. They'll teach you a few different breathing techniques to see which you'll be more comfortable with. It they didn't already ask you to... bring a pillow and blanket for your comfort. You'll be practicing the breathing and the instructor will have you perform to make sure you understand. They explain to the daddies what you'll be going through and what their role will be in the delivery and how they can bring comfort to you... with massages, ice chips, etc...
It'll be pretty much stuff you've already heard or read about... just in great detail. In my opinion... it's more for the spouse than the mommy.
Have a wonderful time...

Its wonderful preparation for the birthing process
Lots of exercises that will help you to relax and control labor
I am so glad I went to all the classes (including the great movies)
I was able to have a natural childbirth, something I really wanted for my baby
Without Lamaze, I would not have been able to use the breathing exercises to my best advantage

It's not a big deal; bring along a nice comfy pillow to lie on/lean against. They'll talk about what's going on inside your body and what the process of giving birth is like. They may also show some sort of video where you'll see a couple during the birthing process. You'll practice breathing exercises, and probably do some sort of "get to know each other" exercises with all the other couples.
BTW, congratulations!

No need to be nervous. They will teach you how to do proper breathing techniques to breath through the pain. They will show your partner how he can help you relax. They also should talk to you about pain management like an epidural. At my Lamaze class they showed us the needle they use for an epidural and it kinda freaked me out, but if you decide to use an epidural you won't care about the needle!! Good luck!

The class will show you what to expect during the birth and give you some exercises to help you cope with the pain. It is great that your partner is going with you. He needs to be there so he can be prepared to help you. It really does make the birth a little easier if you know what to expect and what is going on with your body.

Lamaze was worthless for us and it was a wast of money. Have fun.

the class is no big deal. Just know that everything you learn in there can possibly go out the window when you are actually in labor. Epidurals rule.
