I am new to DSLR (and a beginner in general and simply want to learn as a hobby). Does the bigger LCD, dust system, 9-point thingy etc worth spending more for?

What I choose now will have to do me for years, as I wont be able to afford to upgrade. (I live in UK, by the way, so dollars mean nothing!)

Hi. I'm in Wales.
I use a 350D and it is superb.
I always look at Things when i look for a new camera.
How many Megepixels and the 400D is 10Mp
What size will i be printing the pictures. Both will print to A3 comfortably
Cost, how much do i want to pay, the 400D is fairly new so getting 2nd hand will be difficult.
If you are future proofing your purchase then the 400D is the one to go for, even so you would not be disappointed with the 350D.
Be carefull what lens you go for as most of the EOS lenses will give you problems, Sigma are probibly the best, and go for digital lenses.
Older lenses may work but many will give an error in the viewfinder and lock the shutter,
Good shooting.

Canon 400D is a big step forward from 350D in many aspects. However, it is still premature to judje if new imaging sensor worth it.

If you want a little bit of risk, go for a new camera. In about a year, you may love or you may regret your decision.
Or, you can go with tried-and-true 350D, however, price difference between the two cameras is not that much as to allow for a superior lens.

The extra features of the 400D are nice, but unfortunately the kit lens is rather poor. And the lens determines your image quality - not the body.
I'd personally prefer the 350D with a quality lens.

A quality lens is 75% of a good camera.

I have used this company many times and found good value.
