Why would anyone advocate other people should lie about what they believe?

Why would thumpers suggest or demand those who disagree with them should sin (lie)? Isn't demanding others sin also a sin?

I am an atheist.

ASSUMING (<<<
I am sitting here waiting for God to show up. He knows where I am, I do not know where he is.

Therefore, God is refusing to prove his existence to those of us who require a bit more than lectures from blowhards spouting off about things they do not appear to understand. (preachers).

Or, words from a book that if taken literally is entirely nonsensical and factually inaccurate.

The point is that atheists are only doing what God is leading us to do and if we did otherwise, it would be a sin.

To pdfr:

I live in the Bible belt (Texas) and when the subject of religion comes up, I will listen politely and the only response I will make, if any, is, "We don't share that belief" and change the subject.

I am an atheist, not an evangelist.

To Danny,

My opinion about life is that everything in the universe is "alive." When our brains stop functioning, our bodies do not "die," they recycle into other life forms.

Matter and energy are the same thing and that energy merely rearranges itself as it recycles throughout eternity. Our bodies are nothing more than energy configured into a specific pattern or shape.

I do not believe energy has a unique personality, so there is no such thing as "reincarnation" or "life after death" as the terms are commonly used.

It is possible elements have a molecular memory but that would not be the same as a personality or spirit.

The bottom line is I don't know and it is irrelevant to my existence, but that is what I choose to believe since it makes the most logical sense based on observable events.

The universe is eternal & infinite. Like my hero Einstein, I am a rationalist and do not believe in a "creator" or a personal God.

His point, Beta, is that you, among others, like to tell atheists that we REFUSE to believe in your fairy tales. We don't refuse. We're not able to believe in them, whether we want to or not.

(I, for one, fought like a cornered animal to keep my faith, back when I lost it, years ago. I didn't DECIDE to become an atheist. I had no choice.)

Seems a bit assholish of god to not give us the ability to believe the unbelievable, and then send us to hell as punishment for it.

You may not believe in the God of the Bible, but you actually do believe in a god. You believe the universe is 'alive', so therefore the universe is your god.
You must believe that the universe created you and me, and everything in the universe - - - and itself, of course. That is unless you think the universe is eternal (which goes against the Second Law of Thermodynamics which shows that the universe is running down from an original peak of energy potential which must have existed at its beginning, and that it will ultimately end in the so-called 'heat death')
In any case, you must believe that the material universe had the inherent potential to create life, information, intelligence and the human brain.
In fact, you have no choice but to imbue the material universe with all the qualities and attributes normally associated with a supernatural Creator God. To you the material universe has to be the intelligent, first cause.

The universe is your Supreme Being.

Because the universe consists of matter/energy.
It can be said that the stuff of the universe is the god you worship, i.e. matter/energy.

So you could (like many pagans) use material entities from within the universe to represent your material god, such as a sun god, moon god, or even animals, or idols made of wood or stone. You could even devise rituals and ceremonies to pay homage to your god of matter, which the material idols represent.

So to say you are an atheist or non-believer is actually a lie, because you do have a god, it may be a different god to the God of the Bible, but it is a god nevertheless.

So the Bible is perfectly correct when it states, "only a fool says in his heart there is no God"

Well, first , if they are atheist and claim to believe - they are not atheist lol. But if they are just lying to get a rise out of people.. why would they do that? Many atheists are more grounded people - meaning they pretty much do not have to live with the confusion, bickering and fighting that goes on regarding any religion.

As for your question: " Why would thumpers suggest or demand those who disagree with them should sin (lie)? Isn't demanding others sin also a sin?"

Yes, according to scripture it is a sin to judge. However it gets a bit hazy because in the same book (Leveticus) where it states not to judge, it contradicts and says, "only judge righteously" however no where in the bible is a list of righteous judgements. So... when christians state they are judging for good cause.. they are making it up, they have to be. A true christian sticks to scripture. They do not rely on the preacher to decipher it properly, they actually read the bible and research. Many christians that i have seen simply forget scripture, they are bred into this mediocrity, if you will, and stereotype that , well, is awful. They go to church, pray for sinners, then go home and do things that if their church members knew about it, they would cast them out of the church lol. I am non-christian, though i was born and raised christian. But, according to christians i know, that means i do not believe in jesus.. that is wrong. Many non-christians believe in jesus... first there is data that he existed. Second, the stories of the bible (even the ones kept out of the bible) came from very old scrolls. What i do not believe in is how MANY of the religious leaders practice the faith and preach it.

You make good points Mr. JT. You definitely will make people think whether they admit it or not. But I would like to know just as a topic of discussion. What do you think happens when a person dies? Is there a soul? Do people just cease to exist? Everyone can make arguments for the existence, non existence, or the probable existence (monsters under the bed from the other question I answered) of god. I would be interested in learning what you think or believe. I'm not debating or insulting your questions. I would just like a discussion as I myself have been searching for the truth for very long. Email me if you want.

I under no circumstances push my faith on every person nor have I ever in my life performed so. in case you ask i visit respond to to the finest of my means. you received't like what I even ought to assert yet I continually pray that's the reality earlier I say something about my faith, for i'd be held responsible for what I say on the concern or what i do not say. And if my faith is blind on party, then the in worry-free words answer to it really is I trust that it really is authentic. it really is something i position self assurance in my heart. I don't know anyone demanding someone should believe. I have not seen this or heard of it and certainly wouldn't condone it. I think I would say something like, "People should keep an open mind and be open to frank discussion, not put anyone down for their belief in, or lack of belief in a Deity." I get more irritated when Atheists, many on Yahoo Answers, find believer so "stupid, ignorant, and misled" and demand we be exposed to reality.

An atheist is a non-believer so to say they believe when they don't would be a lie, therefore...a sin.

Lying is a sin and not acceptable.

Your third question is hostile; perhaps re-wording it will get you a third answer.

Sin is sin...any sin is an abomination to God.

If you would study the bible you would have your answer, in fact if you study the bible and still remain an atheist then you can make that assertion based on your study. These rhetorical and foolish questions prove nothing.

Idiots maybe, don't lie. You don't believe? You should be more than free to say so. It isn't like we are going to reach through this computer and twist your arm or something. Just like the pharisees of Jesus' day, they mean well, largely, but it doesn't work well the way they work it. My apologies for them.

Religion is not about what you believe. It's about what you say out loud that you believe. If you spend six days a week being the worst jerk, but you 'repent' in Church on Sundays, and say out loud that you're a bad person, you got your ticket to heaven.
