The crate is too big. A dog will not soil the area it sleeps in so the dog is urinating in one area and sleeping in another. Find a crate that is the correct size for the dog. Also, reenforce your housebreaking. Consistancy is the key.

Her Bladder hasn't matured yet. All puppies are different. I have a CS client that learned housebreaking and indication at three months. Then I had a female Boxer client that at 5 months, and big, still hadn't learned to indicate.

She is not ready to be left alone that long. If you have to go to work, your best bet is to be prepared to find wet spots and an occasional landmine, OR simply spend more time with her outside before you leave.

At five months, if it's cloudy outside, take her for a long walk..maybe 30 minutes or less...that will stimulate her bowels and allow her more time to get her mind and body stimulated before she knows she is going to be placed in her Den all day.

Leave a radio or better yet..the TV on an dplace her where she can hear and see it, it will help with Separation Anxiety.

I usually take two weeks for some dogs and four weeks for others when I take in a Client for Housebreaking/Den Training..all dogs are different.

she's still very small and could have very irregular urination; i have a 2 year old terrier and he still has to go out quite often, like every 4 hours. it sucks if you're not around, but if you are, you will simply have to keep an eye on her and take her out as soon as she needs it (a good method is to keep her on a leash so that you know exactly when she is about to pee); you can't train a little tiny puppy without putting in significant amounts of personal time, unfortunately; they will and do have to pee quite a lot and every dog is different; at the beginning you have to take them as much as they need to go, and then slowly try to extend the time--but this dog is five months old and has a very tiny bladder. Be Patient. yes dogs do pee in their crates (i don't know why one answerer thought that shouldn't happen; of course they'd rather not, but if you gotta go you gotta go!)

hmmm... Usually dogs do not wet where they have to sleep. Is her crate just to big for her and that is why she is doing it ? If so maybe if you got a smaller cage for her that will cure your problem.

also she might just be doing it out of spite because she is in there.
