Can you read this and THEN tell me that declawing a cat DOESN'T hurt them??? How do you think it would feel to have YOUR fingers severed at the first knuckle?? Sure, you'd get over it but you'd never be the same.

To bmwdriver: I am addressing all the people that say declawing doesn't hurt. Try to stick to the topic. Thanks. : )

I am not saying that people shouldn't or can't declaw their cats. It is a free country last time I checked. I just wish people would stop saying that it doesn't hurt and do some research before submitting their pet to a serious procedure such as declawing.

I have three cats raised them since kittens and I will never get my cats declawed. I dont believe in it whatsoever. They are housecats but it takes one time for them to get out the door by accident and they dont have away to protect themselves outside till I can find them.

If people would just buy a scratching pad and take the cat over there they will use it mine use it all the time.

If people are worried aobut their furniture then they dont need to get a cat that is how I feel about it.

I feel the same way of people getting their little dogs ears cropped and their tails docked its cruel and inhumane .

I agree, its a totally painful and cosmetic proceedure, however, there are far too many cats living on the street and in shelters, and if this is something that will keep the cat in the home, who am I to say they can or can't do this to their pet.

I am not a supporter of declawing by any means, but there are always some stipulations that will always arise.

I'm a vet tech and I know first hand this is an extreemly painful and life/mood changing proceedure for these pets, that effect them for the rest of their lives (esp. when they come back to the clinic - they really hate vets/vet techs afterwards....... don't blame them one bit)

I completely agree with you. I am a vet tech and I would rather trim dog ears or dock their tails than declawing a cat. It seems inhumane to me. This is their means of protection. What if the cat accidently gets outside, How could he protect himself?

Of course it hurt, they are cutting off the tip of their toe, it would be the same as some one cutting off the tip of you finger right behind the nail bed, all my kitties have all 18 toes and toe nails for that matter,

That was a great site, I book marked it thank you.

Hell ya it hurts! What is your point? Are you saying we shouldnt declaw our cats?

Well, I wouldnt have cats if they werent declawed, because they would mess up my furniture, scratch my baby and myself, etc. So answer this for me- would the cat rather be declawed, or be one of the millions that are locked in cages at humane societies and then put down each year because nobody wants them? Both of my cats came from the humane society, and likely wouldnt have been adopted if I hadnt taken them (adoption rates for cats runs at about 22-24% of all cats that come in), so they would likely be dead. I would guess if you were able to ask them, as they lay purring in the sun with a full belly, that they would rather be declawed than dead. Wake up to reality.
