If you are a regular, stylists know when u pull up in the parking lot whether to hide in the back or cut ur hair. Majority of all Cosmetologists rely on tips. It doesn't have to be a great amount, but something that shows you appreciate the service provided to you by your stylist. The average is 25% tip. No matter what the service is!
"Hey, you get what you pay for... " Is not always a way to look at stylists. They are there to make you happy and ,make a name for themselves. So even if u dont tip, not ALL stylists are going to "jack" your hair up b/c u didnt tip. That's because they have a reputation to live up to. So, "Jacking" someone's hair up will ruin a stylist if they are Very Good at what they do. Just remember that when you pay mega bucks for a salon service and cant tip. Be glad that most salons arent like alot of Restaurants and add gratuity to your bill! Maybe that would ease some minds out there!

I always tip my hairdresser. She works out of a salon- at which point I know that she doesn't decide her prices and I know that they take a cut/charge her rent for her area, there is also the product that she uses- sometimes supplies by the establishment or sometimes herself- now she does get a tax write off for that- but I like to tip her for making me look good. Do you tip a waitress?

It is always nice to tip a hairdresser, especially when they do a good job. But this is a fact, If you know that the person owns their own hair salon, you don-t have to tip. I learned this in hairdressing school.

Well, you don't HAVE to, but if you are a regular client, I would suggest you do so; doesn't have to be a great amount, but something that shows you appreciate the service provided to you by your stylist.

Just like full-service restaurants, if you are a regular and you have a history of being a stiffer, the stylists WILL know. Stylists and waitstaff have good memories when it comes to who tips and who doesn't. Being a good, consistent tipper could mean the difference between walking out of the salon looking great or walking out looking like the Tasmanian Devil just did a number on your hair. Hey, you get what you pay for...

When you get good service while dining you tip the waiter/waitress. So having your hair done is a service you chose to use, tipping is a gesture of thanks. Use the same method of tipping you would for tipping a waitress/waiter
When I get a perm I tip nothing less than $20.00 at the salon I visit, then when I get it styled I tip $10.00. I've never had any bad treatment at the salon.

For what you women pay to have your hair done, it seems like the tip should already be in the price. My haircuts cost $12 at the barber shop and I give the barber $1. I'm sure that's more than most people tip-if they tip.

Yes, if they do a good job, if they don't then the only tip I give is "Look for a new job". Usually I give 1 or 2 dollars for every 10 dollars I was charged.
