...we really place no expectations on ourselves, do we? If we can blend in and become part of the crowd, we can hate as much as the next person. I do it all the time, here - I can really "get hatin'" on someone who I deem stupid or whatever, I really don't think anything about ripping them a new one.

We all pledge allegiance to what we believe in or what we don't believe in, and it's all fun and games as long as we curry favor with all the people we want to agree with us. None of this discussion really has to lead anywhere - it's just about polishing the apples of those we esteem, and the hell with everyone else, right? We can say that we respect each other, as long as we don't actually have to show it...

Funny, I'm getting answers from just the opposite of who I thought that I had heard from. See, I think tolerance is a joke, and a myth, that people think they need to do lip service to. But even those who preach it, don't even believe in it. Tolerance is about painting everything gray... that way we don't have to make any of those tough judgment calls. Some good answers here.

Please let me give you a prescription, Dr. Look at your beliefs generically. You might see some of the differences between your own and other people's beliefs begin to disappear within moments. It's those high-priced, name-brand beliefs that make people have the allergic reactions you describe.

Wow, you are right to a degree, I tend to be critical and give answers that I think are funny but looking back they may seem intolerant. Oh, the sacrifices we make for humor. I really do try to be tolerant, where I work I have to be, I would expect nothing less from myself.

You know, before eight years I was writing to the people whom I consider as non believers very harsh words, until I had a conversation with an atheist who was very cool and polite.

Each time I sent a burning messages, he answered with a very cool manner.

I respected him, despite my reservations on his believes and since then I was changed dramatically.

When you write in a very high energy , you seem like you're not confident about what you are fighting for.

Tolerance has no place in Christian heart...I believe that it is my obligation to speak and live the Word of God and tell everyone about how Jesus died for my sins and for yours. He is the only way!
That does not mean you can hate others....it means you try to understand where they are coming from, try to make them understand what they are doing is not honoring to God and pray for them. You have to pray for yourself too, that you keep focused on God and not become self-righteous.

Tolerance doesn't come easy, does it? We need to exercise it like a muscle. Everyone needs a workout.

I disagree with you, tolerance isn't about compromise. It's about respect. You can tolerate how someone else believes by respecting their right to do so.

I don't really relate to those views. I am tolerant of other peoples beliefs and genuinely indifferent as to what people think of mine.
