Getting nervous around others is very common for many people. So what if you have a few drinks to calm your nerves. What ever it takes to calm yourself and have a good time out. Every person is different and some use alcohol and some smoke and others it just comes naturally to them to be very social. hope that i helped answer your question

It's okay to a point. If you are having a drink to enjoy others' company that is fine, but if you always get nervous around people and always resort to this as a solution, what are you going to do when you get nervous at a job and can't have a drink?
Investigate other ways to deal with your nervousness, keep this one in perspective, and you should be fine.

I think it is OK. But if you look under alcohol related symptoms it does fall under the category of alcohol abuse (NOT alcoholism).
But, I think it depends on if you are having a glass of wine to calm your nerves or if you are having a couple of huge martinis. If you are having great amounts you are probably trying to drink yourself into a personality, which is too bad and not good no matter how you look at it.

I think there are better ways to relax and calm yourself.
It seems as if you have some unresolved social anxieties, which to be honest, is rather common.
I would actually suggest going to see a counselor for a few sessions to try and work things out.
You don't need a shot of tequila, you need a shot of self confidence!

Well I admit I would do the same sometimes but yea if you can keep a grip on it why not. I drink a few beers before going out on a sat nite myself.
That and a few red bulls.

no. Alcohol can become a deadly substitute for low self esteem.
Alcohol (loud mouth) brings out bad characteristics.
Jesus said, "it not whats goes in a man but what comes out of man that is dangerous"
Alcohol goes in- but who knows the results of a drug.
Thats what alcohol is- a drug.
Bad company loves misery.
Don't drink to socialize.
Instead work on your self esteem. (sober)

An occasional drink is not bad, but getting behind the wheel after is a different story. So if you are playing safe...drink on!

No, eventually this is how you will turn into an alcoholic. Try exercising or talking to a friend in order to relieve stress.

Too many people abuse themselves with alcohol, and many started at the very place you have just described. I wouldn't "drink to relax" if I were you.

I think that it is fine. I get the same way when I am nervous, it helps me relax and be more in control of what I am doing.
