By law the speed limit as stated on the road sign is the legal limit you are permitted to travel at.
Anything above that limit is classed as speeding.
But think about this, I am driving within the speed limit of 40mph and you drive past me at 44mph, you are breaking the law and I am not, yet at the first set of traffic lights you come to, I will be right behind you. Which means you broke the law to be1 cars length in front of me.
Personally I don't see the point of your speeding, plus should you hit someone you will injure them more than I would.

It's about 10% over, but it really depends on your luck, a mate of mine was given 3 points and a fine for doing 35mph in a 30 at 02:30 a couple of years back. I think the static cameras are set with a max just over the 5% mark, but if you get a traffic cop on a bad day then there might not be even any % over the limit.
( But Always ask for a copy of the calibration Cert for the Gun that caught you)

it depends on the state and the officers mood.. they can legally pull you over for 1mph over and if they just feel like checking you out they will do that. for general traffic, in my state 1-9mph over is under the dame category so even if you are driving 29 in a 20 it's te same ticket as a 59 in a 50.. but you'll always get pulled over in the slower zones here (usually they are school zones so they are heavily enforced) the general rule i go by (and I've never had a speeding ticket in 12 years of driving) is that i drive no more than 4mph over in towns, 7 mph over on the highway and 10 mph over on the interstate. again this is what i do in my state.. when i drive threw states other than my own that i know there will be a lot of state troopers in i tend to drop each of those values by 2-3 mph just because the out of state tags scream "pull me over!"

in the uk you can normally drive at 10% above the stated speed limit before getting a tug, although this is not advisable due to police trying to hit targets you will probably get done for being 1 mph over the limit.

More like three percent, this is to allow for speedometer discrepances, do not rely on any so called allowance, you speedo may be under reading already!!! time it yourself, 1 mile motorway marker at 70mph= 51.5 seconds collates at 69.9mph.
Do not forget that tyres expand with heat and there will be a difference to the recorded speed as would fitting larger tyres/wheels.

In Ohio, it is usually safe to go no more than 5 mph over the speed limit. Of course, a cop can ticket you for 1 mph over the speed limit if he wants to.

depends on the officer/camera some are at the speed limit, some 10% and a lot are 10% plus 3. so 50mph would be 58...however a speed limit is call the limit for a reason so how about just sticking to it and you know you wont get tickets

if it is a camera it will depend on the setting on it some are set dead on the limed and others you can get away with 10% more than the limed. so thus if you are travailing at 50 you can do 55. the only way to find out how they are set is to drive past and and see at Wat speed they go of and if it goes you will find out. but if you know were they are you can go as fast as you like just slow down to speed limit in that area.

I heard that it was 4mph, so your 10% theory would be about right (44 in a 40 zone). Also heard that car speedos are already a little high, so stick to that and you're safe. I was once caught doing 36mph in what I thought was a 40 zone but it turned out to be a 30 - argh!

no count how plenty greater you're saying, or how plenty you will possibly no longer like it. The law enforcement officers are exempt from site visitors regulations whilst interior the extremely overall performance of their responsibilities. "Now i've got heard quite everyone say that law enforcement officers are exempt from velocity limits in situations the place there is an emergency and that they could desire to straight away get there, and that lights and sirens are not mandatory if the emergency demands some stealth, yet for this reason, there is not any EMERGENCY.
