They have different competitions for dogs. Haven't you ever watched animal planet they have those competitions on all the time. I'm no expert as to technical terms, but they have separate categories for different sized dogs. One is like a run, the dogs have to jump through things, run up and down a see-saw type board, run through tunnels, etc. Another usually has mostly labs, the owner stands at the end of the runaway the dog takes of running and the owner throws a fake down into the water at the end of the runaway. Its like the doggie long jump. They have a bunch of events like that. Watch Animal Planet they show it all the time.

All sorts of sporting events for dogs.
There is agility, obility (a cross between agility and obedience), Flyball, breed specific trials (herding sheep, water sports,) all sorts of races, pulling competitions, Search and Rescue competitions, and the police have their own version for their dogs. Look up "Earth dog" competitions. They are man made tunnels built for terriers to "hunt" caged rats. It's amazing.
Do a Google search, it's a vast and very interesting topic.
Also, a book called "Dog Training for Dummies" has alot of them listed in the last few chapters.
Cheers.

The word "performance" is used to distinguish it from "conformation". Confonformation is judging of a dog against its breed standard. Performance includes obedience, agility, rally and tracking. There are various levels and corresponding titles associated with each type of performance event.

I would think you would be talking about Agility events. This is where the dog is trained to travel an obstacle course - jumping, going thru tunnels, up ramps and down and they are timed and penalized for missing any obstacles.
