There are really an infinate number of ways that you could help out your nation/country. The easiest way is to organize something as a school. It allows you to show some leadership, and to make some new friends. Also, if your volunteering with friends, no matter what the task is, or how tedious the job is, it will be fun.

There are lots of things that you could do. One major question is location. If you have access to a major city nearby, then there will be more events open to you. For example, I live in New York, so people have gone to the AIDS Walk which is held in New York City before.

About helping your less fortunate brothers/sisters...who are you talking about more specifically. Like, for example, going back to 9/11, right after it happened, our school organized massive groups to make peanut butter sandwiches to send to those who were working on clearing out Ground Zero, and we sent them to the workers with letters.

We have put together care packages containing basic necessities and sent them to troops in Afghanistan (this was when there were a LOT more troops in Afghanistan...before Iraq).

We have also raised 50,000 dollars in cash to give to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

If you want to go even broader...and go you your brothers/sisters all over the world...the human race...

After the tsunami in the Indian Ocean a few years ago, we raised money and sent it over.

We sent over a 1000 books to Africa to help kids learn to read.

As you could probably tell...the possiblities are truly endless. There are many things that can be done, the question is, what do you have an interest in, and if you want to incorporate your school, what are other people also interested in.

Best of Luck!!!

That's a good place to find work by that standard, and if you do enough of it you'll start getting assigned some very important community service tasks. One would think random acts of kindness work well towards getting the destitute back on their feet, but to be truly helpful you must also truly plan out what you will do. Good luck!
