I have to leave my 1 year old puppy at my sister's house for a week. We aren't supposed to have her at our apartment and our landlord has to do some repairs. Will she remeber me when I go to pick her up? She's my baby and I love her so much and it breaks my heart to be away from her for a whole week. Is she going to be sad to be away from me?

My sister loves animals and loves my dog, she has her own dog, and two kids. I'm sure she'll have fun there.

I feel your pain! I just dropped my 7 mo old puppy off with her 'grandma' for the week. I know it sounds ridiculous but I cried when I was backing out of the driveway and she was trying to chase after me. :(. I've been with her every day since she was 5 weeks old! But the truth is it's harder for us 'mothers' than it really is for the pups. Good luck!

Dogs live in the moment. So they will initially wonder why you left them and be upset, but they get over it quickly. It is a rare dog that will pine away, no matter what the ramonatic stories say.
That doesn't mean that the dog doesn't love you. Wait until you come back to pick her up, you will be convinced beyond any doubt of her love for you.
Now, my concern is that you are hiding the dog from your landlord. If you love your dog as much as she loves you, get permission from your landlord of get out. Do not leave your dog's life at stake because you are being dishonest with the man who owns your home.

No, she will not forget you. I am sure that she will miss you too. I had to go out of town for a few days and my boyfriend said that our dog would sit on the end of the bed looking out the window at the driveway when I was gone. If a car would come down the road her ears would perk up and then go back down as the car passed our driveway.

She might be sad without you, but she will remember you when you come back! I had to leave my 6 month old puppy with a friend for a week once and she was really happy to see me when I got back. She might "pout" though when you do come back so don't be too upset if that happens.

Of course she'll remember you. She'll have fun on vacation and when she comes home she'll be delighted to see you.
You should look for another place to live though. Animal-hating landlords suck.

She will miss you, but she will certainly NOT forget you. Dogs bond with their owners like children. Your 1 yr old has been with you long enough to know that you are her owner. She is going to jump all over you when you get back. :)

Animals like humans have the ability to remember those who have been kind to them and also those who have not.
I can tell you have bonded with your dog and this is something that he/she will never forget. Animals have been separated from their owners for long periods of time, but never forget them.

Dogs don't forget there owner that easily, but what i would do is give him/her something that smells like you and have him/her sleep on it or just smell it. That's going to help him/her recognized your smell and you allot better.
