the dads girlfriend uses a wood stove to heat with. Could this be causing him to get sick. The last 2 times he came home he had a fever and running nose, which always leads to chest congestion. Which lingers for days, he gets better then goes with his father and it starts all over again.
No one smokes around him so I know its not that. It just started happening when the weather got cooler and the dad
needed to keep his house warm. My son is in kindergarten
but this started right before school did.

Take him to the doctor and ask him to check your son for winter asthma.

About a year ago, my youngest daughter had hypoxia, which is where you are not getting enough oxygen, and she was in the hospital two seperate times...She was on oxygen and it was just a waiting game. She took breathing treatments and after she got home the second time, we had a home health nurse come visity 2 times a week to check her and we also had to go to a lunch specialist..All this just sprang from what you say your son seems to get. Recurrent symptons, going away and coming back. I would say that it is likely the wood stove. My kids aren't smoked around either, BUT their grandparents smoke and were doing so in their house in a bedroom with closed doors, AND they had a wood stove also. After going to the lung specialist, they told me that wood stoves are bad for kids, expecially if they have had beathing problems and that smoking, even in a closed off room, isn't good, and would probably be doing her harm. The ventialtion in a house, just takes the smoke from room to room. I would talk to the dad and take your son to a doctor if you can't get this resolved with the dad. :)

Sounds more like allergies -- what kind of wood is he using. Juniper for example is VERY bad for allergies, my son would just plug up and had to sleep with his window open until all the smoke was out of the house. Ck with his doctor if it persists, he can run allergy tests. I would also ck out the mold mentioned above, better safe than sorry. Good luck.

OH -- do they have animals?? Maybe he is alergic to them - my granddaughter cannot even walk into a house that has a cat. Ck it out.

I would check for allergies first. Make sure the father goes with you or at least sees the results. Let the doc know that there is a woodburning stove too. Molds may play a part in that too. Is there a dog or cat at the fathers?
A good allergist, & make him pay for at least half of it!

My son would get the exacy same symptoms after he we spend the night with his grandparents. They had one room that was built on a lower level that had mold spores. This was causing him to get cold like symptoms. We would give him benadryl before we would go over and he wasn't allowed to in that room. Lucky for us the recented remodeled!

lots of people use wood stoves with no problems - it could be part of the problem but without a medical allergy test it would be hard to say...
like the other people I would suspect mold first.. or pet allergies?

maybe he is not getting warm at his dad's house it could be bc the house is too cold for him there could be drafts in the house. Maybe tell his dad to double up the covers when your son goes to bed over at his dad's house

wood stoves kill my allergies. it could very well be that. it almost sounds like he gets sinus infection. if it is the stove there is not much you can do since they need heat. maybe a good allergy med, like claritin or zyrtec.
