I think you should talk to your parents first. Then talk to your family doc. and find out if you need to take antidepressants. If this feeling has been going on for a while you may need something to help you through this. I hope you feel better. Take care.......

First fo all does your friend have experience in the field of depression? Some people think medicine is the only way to get rid of depression. I am going to tell you that medicine can help, but does not get rid of it! The way to get rid of depression is to first find out exactly what caused the depression. Then learn how to deal with the cause.
There are illnesses out there that can cause you to get depressed for no reason at all. For example: Bipolar disorder, chronic depression, psychophrenia, anxiety, and panic attacks (stress). You stated that you are not sure on how to tell your parents, I'm not sure if you mean you are in your teens or that you just want to ask them for some help! In either case it could be an illness that you may have. You may want to set up an appointment witn a physician to see if medication is the answer. But I am going to let you know one thing: I have been seeing a doctor for depresion for over seven years now and on medication and I have found out that medication can help control anger, sleeping problems, and hyperness; but it cannot control sadness and what others do to you and how others make you feel. Only YOU can control that! So, before you listen to those who say get on medication look at yourself and look around the depression before making the final decision!!!

Sit down with your parents
if not a school councilor
or a doctor
and really be trueful with your self
find out what is wrong with your live and try to change it
that is not easy in itself
but if you do nothing it Will only get worst

i think your friend could be right
but before you take any pills make sure you understand what you are taking and try to find other ways first

Sometimes you may just need to change one thing
sometimes you may need to change a lot of things

be true to your self and you will find happiness

the main thing is you feel love and by that i mean for your self

you should just sit down with your parents and let them know exactly how you've been feeling and that you would like to see a doctor. you may not need anti-depressants - therapy can help in many cases because you are talking to a person completely detached from your life and can really express your true feelings without the concern of hurting someone else's.

a word of caution - anti-depressants are not right for everyone (don't let your family doctor just prescribe them and send you on your way), and they are very difficult to stop taking.

keep your head up. things WILL get better!

well this might sound crazy but start exercising and eating right... eat 6 small meals a day to keep your blood sugar even throughout the day, and start working out to relieve stress. i know it sounds crazy but it works... when you work out it releases endorphins into your body. I know a lot of people that have started anti-depressants and if you want to be dependant on something like that for the rest of your life, than go ahead. When i was about 19, my life was going down the hill, and I thought there was no way out, so I started taking antidepressants and then I started having suicidal thoughts and crazy things were happening. I took them for about 4 months and became dependant on them... I felt like I couldn't live without them. Finally my friends and family.. confronted me and told me they were tired of seeing me like this, and I quit taking them cold turkey and got worse than I was in the beginning but I just kept doing it, because I knew that I would have to be normal some day. I started working out, and getting out of the house more, eating right. Now I am all better Loving life and expecting my first baby in march. Life is too short to live it like that. Good Luck

Tell your parents that you have been feeling down lately and you don't know why. Ask them if you should see a doctor? They will at least keep an eye on you to see if you need further help. Also try to involve yourself in some activity so that you stimulate your mind. You are too young to feel the way you are feeling.
See your parents to get help right away.

You might be able to get over it on your own. (Eating healthy, exercising, finding fun things to do can help boost your mood.)
If it continues, you could talk to your doctor about it. That way you don't need to concern your parents about it until you find out what's going on. If the doctor puts you on medication, you should talk to your parents about it so they know what is going on. They love you and want the best for you, they want to know what's going on in your life. Maybe you need some counselling to help you deal with any past issues.
