I think alcohol does increase the risk for suicide because it depresses the system.

alcoholism is a chemical dependence, this is because it suppresses the nervous system giving a feeling of relaxation,as inhibitions go out of the window. However it is very common to have strong feeling of depression and/or anxiety the following day.
If one is suicidal whilst drinking the reality of what one is doing is lessened therefore they are more likely to to go ahead with their plans. It is more likely also as fear diminishes and a drunken determination ensues. Some people who may have felt suicidal start to drink and suddenly feel better, but the next morning their depression returns with a vengeance due to the natural anxieties that alcohol can bring on, So it isnt so black and white, however research does suggest that an indivual on drugs or alcohol or both are three times more likely to go ahead with suicidal plans as the consequences of their actions do not overpower the need to end their life. Which is often the case with a sobre person. It is would be far better to talk to somone than to drink on it. believe me i know.

If a person is prone to commit suicide, then alcohol could be the very thing that could push this person over the edge. The alcoholic drinks to chase the last really fun drunk that she or he had, which could have been 20 years in the past. Even though drinking has become a nightmare for them, they still remember the last good drunk they were on.

are the two related? in some cases meybe. suicide is hard to study as many of the subjects are often dead or dont remember jumping of the top of their office building. but really suicide is cause by a myriad of issues and/or a personal inability to cope. and in some cases some people are just wired in a way that they can not accept the universe in which they live and so they wish they didnt. drinking and drug abuse is a common way for those types of personalities to supress the resulting emotions, and that can lead to suicide. however i would not link the two together. drugs are usualy a tool to get up on the ledge and not look back.

the fact that alcy is a depressant is really quite minor usualy. there are other issues at play, alcy is just the easiest thing to blame for it. but that person was already suicidal before he picked up the bottle. if fact it may be y he picked up the bottle in the first place.

keep in mind that suicide is a very broad topic, everyone does it for differnt reasons under different circumstances.

Hey Brother,

Seems that you don’t drink . . lol . . well there’s a simple answer to this question . . . alcohol is bad on an excess level . . by that I mean . . that TOO much of anything KILLS !!!

People nowadays just need stuff to blame suicides / homicides/ etc . . on . .

Saying that Alcohol increases the risk of SUICIDE is absolutely out of the way . . coz alcohol acts as a calming agent . .

Its something like cigarettes, the nicotine from cigs calm the nerves . . alcohol has some what of an effect on us. .

A person is not 100% sure what is he’s doing but at least he’s 97% sure . . . I say 97 becoz . . when a person has too much alcohol, he starts feeling dizzy . . . drowsy . . etc . .

But at the same time he knows what he wants to do . . and how to do it . . . He has not lost his senses completely . .

Suicides are caused due to depression and . . I mean SERIOUS depression . . a depression that a person feels that there is no other way out of it other than to Kill himself / herself in other words “SUICIDE” . .

Alcoholism, is used by most people to calm that depression . . . plus it has a benefit . . some tend to get out of beating up somebody just becoz he was PISSED DRUNK . .

Kool !!! yet crazy . . they are both brought on by the single individual (himself or herself) . .

There’s nothing simpler to it . . .

We like use bend the rules to suit ourselves . . . !!!
