some of her friends said that it was noticable. is it ok if i let her shave her legs? she's 10-1/2, I told her that she should ignore them and be confident of who she is. I am South indian and we do have too much hair...I really want to help her feel confindent but do you think it's ok if i show her how to shave her legs? my husband thinks she's too young.

I come from similiar heritage to you and your daughter and I started shaving when I became more aware of my looks and how others saw me aged about eleven (which was more than a decade ago) so I think that since your daughter is bringing it up, you do need to take notice and help her shave. Your husband does understandably have concerns but he's not the one who has to go to school every day and kids can be very cruel so it's better to nip things in the bud.

If you feel she's not quite ready for shaving, do what my mum did and buy her hair-removing cream (which has the advantage of lasting a good week or more). Then, in a couple of years time, she can try with a female razor (I'd buy a good one so there's less risk of her cutting herself).

Remind her that she might have to start shaving a bit younger than her blonde/lighter-hair coloured friends but she's the one who won't be worrying about getting a nice tan as hers is natural!

That's when I started shaving. I remember getting made fun of because of my hairy legs and I asked my mom if I could shave, she said no at first and got all mad - which was awful for me! But she caved in - thank goodness! Shaving is only shaving, I don't see the big deal.

I started shaving my legs in the 5th grade too. Since I come from German/Spanish descent my legs were a mess! Let her shave her legs, it will make her feel more confidant and better about herself.

I went through this last year w/ my 5th grade daughter...In the end I let her shave her legs. It really isnt that big of a deal and if it helps with her self confidence then why wouldnt you. BTW, my hubby disagreed with me about it, he too said she was to young, AFTER I let her shave I told him, Im glad we can agree to disagree! Good Luck!

If that is going to make her feel more comfortable then teach her to do it. I think that a regular razor will be just fine..just show her how to use it properly and not to slide it the wrong way on her legs...

I have to tell you....I was a hairy kid. It was horrible. My family thought I was to young to shave, but I got picked on about it. It was such a big deal to me at that time. After going through what your daugher has gone through, I say HELP her shave. It's true what you said about liking herself, but it's not like she asking for plastic surgery. Let the kid shave her legs. : )

It would be better for you to equip her with an electric shaver for women than for her to sneak around and cut herself shaving with any old razor (like I did at her age). I give you kudos for trying to understand how she feels at 10! We are going thru sort of the same thing with my 11 year old 5th grade son who feels like he is ugly & fat! He's got blond hair, blue eyes, stands 5'3" and weighs 105 and of course Mom thinks he's just as cute as can be! We are trying to work with him about his self esteem - I guess it's what kids go thru at their age, so don't feel like the Lone Ranger - God bless!

you don't want your child to stand out and be made fun of, let her shave it will make her more secure and first let her use an electric razor.
