How are roundworm infestations in pets treated?

There are many wormers that kill roundworms. Most wormers, however, kill the adult worms but do not affect the migrating or encysted larvae. This is why most manufacturers of wormers advise repeating the worming 2-4 weeks after the first treatment. By that time, most larvae that were migrating during the first treatment have come back to the intestine where they can be killed by the second treatment.

Roundworms can contaminate the dirt where they dogs have pooped for many years and then children go and play in the dirt. Its more common for children to get the roundworms then adults .

All you need to do is call your vet and ask for some treatment it might take two or three times with pills to treat them . They will get rid of the worms when they go do their business. The worms can produce 80,000 eggs a day in a dog if its not treated and could actually kill your pet if not treated soon.

All dogs get worms especially puppies its passed through to the puppies when they are nursing from their mom . Nothing to panic about though. Your vet can get it cleared it up for you. Just dont let your children if you have any play anywhere where your dog has been and it would probably be best to scoop up after him after he poops in the backyard . That is what I have done

Stool sample doesnt show if they have spread..they are there, period. You may use a dewormer called D-worm. If you take her to the vet it wont be that expensive..more then likely between 50-80.00. Puppies need to be dewormed 2 , 4,6, and 8 weeks old. So if you see worms you know shes infected so deworm now and w/in 3 weeks again. Take stool sample in to make sure she is clean but sometimes a stool sample may suggests shes clean but the next stool wont. Its a hit and miss. Once your confident she is clean you need to get her on a heartworm prevention to protect against hook and roundworms. Safeguard which is a panacur is a very safe and broad spectrum wormer. You may find many products on www.valleyvet.com If you have more then one dog it is suggested to treat both.

You need to take your dog to the vets pronto. Worms of any kind can be very serious for dogs. Your dog will need to get treatment from the vet and then you should give it 'Heartguard' every month. You should also have your other dogs stool checked at the vets to make sure that the worms haven't spread. Worms can be completely taken care of if treated early. Your vet will tell you how to care for the dog in the future. Good luck!

Ivory is correct. Most puppies do have worms. The active ingredient in Worm X and many other brands is Pyrantel Pamoate. This is what most vets use.
If the two dogs have been in the same yard, they both need to be treated.

If you happen to took him to the vet and he has worms, why didn't you get the meds even as you had been getting the prognosis.. That does not make experience. Wait til Monday now.. Do not hassle purchasing the stuff from the shop, it does not work. You will have to contact the person you bought the dog from. No 10 week historical dog must have worms... And under no circumstances have worms so dangerous that they get significantly worse over night time.. The dog should have been wormed weeks in the past.

Take him to the vet with a stool sample of BOTH your dogs. Once one of them has them, there is a very high possiblity that the other may bet them. We have three dogs, and when we got the third as a rescue, she had them and infected the other two. You will have to bring stools samples back to your vet until the dog(s) are clean of them. Please don't assume that the other one will not catch it. It is better to have that one's stool looked at for his/her safety, or you will be playing touch-tag with the infection. Good luck. It may take a little time to get rid of.
