Do you think they have to many? Do you think that the children are missing out on one-on-one parent time that can be so important? Why do you think motivates them to keep having kids? What thoughts do you have in general on families with LARGE amounts of children? I'm not sure how I feel about it, I don't suppose it really matters, but I do worry that since they have implimented the "buddy system," (older kids each have a younger one to care for) that the older kids might be missing out on some of their childhood. The kids are also homeschooled, and seem very sheltered. Just wondering what other people's opinions were! I know it's highly abnormal, but I guess normal is just a state of mind right? How do you feel?

That lady had a serious amount of children and had no thoughts on stopping. I totally agree with you on the "buddy system" I think {which is my personal opinion} that you should have the amount that you can care for, and not pass the job down to other children. The world is to hard as an adult, every child should be entitled to a child hood. also I wonder about the quality of care that each child recieved. On the show there was a child feeding her younger sibling straight of a english pea can, that was metal. I may be wrong, but that struck me as odd. large families are ok as long as the parents are the primary caretakers.

I have seen it once and I was amazed and how much they were a "team" each one looking out for eachother. When they were building a new home they asked if the older ones would like their own room and they said they preferred to have a huge bedroom for all the girls and another huge bedroom for all the boys so they could watch out for eachother! Amazing! I do think that they are a little sheltered and will probably have a hard time when they are adults in the "real world". Unless they try to "recruit others in" and try to develop their own commune, they will have to go out into society to marry and live like the rest of us. This will not be easy. The parents seem pretty smart, so I think they probably have thought of this and have some "real world preparedness" in their lessons. I think couples should have as many kids as they want and can afford, it appears that the Real Estate career the Dad has is bringing in enough money so that they are comfortable... the new house was $$. I think they should be very proud of themselves, both parents and children for the wonderful behavoir and beliefs and teamwork they have. I hope the gooness they bring rubs off to the people they meet as they "leave the nest" !

I think they are insane! It is very unfair to the older ones to have to care for the younger ones, they are missing out on life! Also, the whole home schooling thing is just not right. How are they ever to meet people outside of the family. They should be going to dances, playing sports, joining social clubs etc. To me, it seems all they are really being taught is how to take care of children. The parent's must not have a very healthy intimate life either. It seems the only time they have sex is to have another child! Crazy!

16 kids! Damn man that is way too many! I have 3 and I fell like I have way too many. I would definetly go crazy! Yeah, it does seem like they would miss out on one on one with the parents. Yeah, the older kids would miss out too! I would have been peed off if I had to take care of a younger sibling when I was a kid. That is not really fair ya know!?

I hadn't heard of them, but I think it is very selfish on the parent's part. I don't think the kids can get enough parent time at all, much less one-on-one. I grew up with 6 siblings--all work--no play--no one seemed to care. They get a tax break having all those kids, but since they as a couple are using more of the Earth's resources to propagate their own genes they should have to pay more. I feel sorry for the children.

I think its a serious problem. Its irresponsible in today's over-population problem. We all scream about a lack of jobs...but there is no lack of jobs, there IS an overage of people. When will people learn? You cannot create jobs indefinitely, therefor you should have the decency in society to keep your breeding in check.

Unless you're black of course, then you can have all the kids you want so we can keep pumping welfare checks out there. You may think this sounds rude, but it IS and unspoken culture. If you already live in abject poverty, with no chances of getting out, then you have lots of kids so you can get that welfare money.

Most people in this country believe that there is not a job shortage, but rather a people overage, but that won't stop the Mormon's and such.

It is far too many children for parental love, support and guidance towards each child, and quality time to hear and discuss kids' problems, joys and the important events in their daily lives.

i think its their religious beliefs that forbid them to use any type of birth control, hence, tons of kids!

I think its great that they can put up with 16 kids..lol As long as the kids are loved and well taken care of, why not? It's their decision.

It's disgusting and irresponsible to have that many children in this day and age.
