Fresh veggies and fruits tend to be the most expensive things on the food pyramid and it's also the area most deficient in low income individs. Try frozen and canned fruits and veggies, but read the labels. You dont want ones with a lot of additives, especially sugar and salt.

I think the veggies & grains are much cheaper than meats, so if they followed it to a tee, they can do it. Grains are on the bottom of the pyramid, & you can make breads from grains if you have a recipie. So, that is one part down. Fresh veggies are not expensive, & better for you than canned, although canned last longer in storage. Fruits are a bit more expensive, so care must be used in picking. In season fruits are usually cheaper that buying out of season. Meats are the most expensive under sweets, & they say we all eat too much. So, chicken can be found inexpensive, turkey if now available all year, Frozen fish is better than it used to be. So, you don't buy sirloin & filet, there are some kicka$$ recipies for cheak skirt steak! No one needs sweets, so a very small part of ones budget can be spent on an occasional splurge. It can be done, if one chooses well.

That's an interesting question. Back when my family was on food stamps we had a pyramid on our refrigerator.
I would definitely say that keeping milk, cheese and meat for the month was the hardest to keep around. Fresh fruit and vegetables are less expensive so we had lots of those. Plus we knew people with gardens and fruit trees.
I hope this helps you for whatever reason you're asking this.
Good luck ! !

because they piss away thier money on mcdonalds and other fatty foods. There is also a lack of information regarding what is good to eat and how to eat properly. Also major fat (fast) food companies market to poorer communities. Food that is unhealthy should be required to carry a HUGE sticker on the wrapping and on the door stating that "eating this food could cause heart disease or diabeties. eat at your own risk". Low income families also may not be the best at budgeting themselves. They do not NEED a playstation 3, they do not NEED a television set, they do not NEED a stereo. but they do need to eat right.

Fresh fruits and vegetables can be expensive, a low income family may find it difficult to provide the recommended daily allowance of these necessary items.

if they have no money they cant buy food. most poorer families get what they can to make their $ stretch, and it usuallu is more fattening. eg. spaghetti, pots of food, chicken and dumplings, chickenand rice, potatoa salad, maccaroni. etc.
