Before you go panicking, you should know that worms are very common in puppies, and a good breeder will deworm his puppies several times before they go to their adoptive homes. It is very normal.

You don't really have enough information to identify what kind of worms these could be. A vet will need to identify them to determine which wormer to use. Some worms are dangerous to your puppy if left untreated. On the other hand if the pup seems reasonably alert and healthy you can be fairly certain he isn't going to drop dead right away. He'll really look sick if he is that bad off. So just make a vet appointment for the next available time. Explain the situation and they'll work you in. You don't need an emergency appointment, but it should be done sooner rather than later.

The vet will prescribe a wormer that should be given several times to your puppy. It will kill the worms, and you will probably see them in the waste. You may see some diarrhea or even blood int he stool. The blood is caused by the worms detaching from the wall of the intestine. Just clean up the stools and you won't need to worry.

Yes, the worms could be transferred to your other dog if you do not practice good hygiene. There will be worm eggs in your puppy's stool. Your other dog can pick up the worms by eating the stools or walking through stools where you didn't clean up, then licking his feet. Always scoop the poop and wash your hands after. Good hygiene is the key in keeping your other dog safe.

Some people may suggest feeding your dog motor oil or other home remedies. These do NOT work and could possibly kill your dog. The vet is your best choice. There are over the counter remedies to try, but unless you know what kind of worms you are dealing with, you don't know which one to use. Also you need to be careful that any over the counter remedy is safe for a puppy.

Your best option is a trip to the vet and scrupulous pooper scooping.

The best advice is to call the vet and take a stool sample in. One of the products out there that is very safe and has a broad spectrum is panacur which you may find in Safeguard deworming. Strongid dewormings take care round and hookworms but what you had found could possibly be a tapeworm. A responsible breeder deworms their puppies at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age and if increased risk, also treat at 10 to 12 weeks and then monthly till the pup is 6 months old. Thereafter, use a heartworm medication to prevent against hook and roundworms. Remember, you have found a worm so treat her for this but repeat treatment w/in 3 weeks for any eggs that could of hatched. Also, pick up after both dogs everytime they mess to keep reinfection down. Try not to water your yard either..eggs dont do as well in dry areas. When going for walks dont allow dogs to sniff around or piddle every 20 ft. this is for exercise not marking..before the walk allow them potty time and then walk. Try to discourage rummaging around in the yard or around garbage...have toys for them and rawhides to keep them content. Good luck. These products all can be found on a wonderful website at www.valleyvet.com Just remember that just because a stool sample doesnt show one kind of worm doesnt mean it doesnt exist. Some areas have an epidemic of one thing then another area does. Your vet will know this but be educated to ask questions and pry answers from your vet.

I brought home a puppy once who cleared the room literally with her smelly gas problem! I took her to the vet the next day and found that she also had worms. They just gave her some pills and she was fine within two days. Yes, it could affect your other dog. Baby worms are often microscopic or hard to see and they could be crawling on a shared toy, food, etc. They can also pass on to humans. Please take your dog to the vet now so you can get it some medication. Be sure to let them know you have another dog at home. You will want to take a stool sample with you from both dogs.

ok your dog can be helped.. it probably wont die - worms take a long time to kill a dog....

have the dog dewormed at a vet who has seen a stool sample so they know what kind of worms it is.. or they will use a broad spectrum dewormer - the kind you can buy at pet shops wont kill all kinds of worms

if the pup wasnt vaccinated before you got it - this is a priority - you should NEVER bring home an unvaccinated pup, especially if you have another dog...
DO NOT take either dog off your property until the pup is fully vaccinated - it is possibly for a fully vaccinated dog to give illness to an unvaccinated one or to carry home diseases on its paws (eg parvo)

make sure both are spayed and neutered

You need to take you puppy to the vet. They can tell you which kind of worms your poor pup has and can treat them. If left untreated, worms can cause severe harm to animals. Your dog should be fine after seeing a vet, though.

It will not effect the other dog but go to a place where they sell worm stuff and get it soft dog food and if the dog eats it will not die. Trust me my dog had it o and take your dogs and let them both run in the park.
