on a regular basis by her husband, that god would consider her a sinner if she dared to divorce him. The she should have "chosen better" before marrying. He did say that she could seperate from him, but never divorce or have relations with another man for the rest of her life, how nice of him to allow that (sarcasm). Just wondering what other christians think about this mans viewpoint.

I am not trying to be rude, I am simply trying to see how many christians really think like this?

I'm an atheist, and this is one reason I dislike religion. Religious people are morally lazy. They'd rather default to their interpretation of "God said so", instead of actually thinking about the issue. It is a spoon-fed morality that is outdated and destructive.

well, I'm catholic, and we firmly believe that if you married someone, then you are married the rest of your life to that one person ... Now hear me through, please!

We do not believe it fair to be in an abusive marriage, but you have already promjised God that you'd be faithful to this one person for the REST of your life... TILL DEATH DO US PART... you can't break promises, especially one made to GOd, it is a sin... so it is okay to leave for the safety of yourself, and take the kids (if there are any) with you... but you cannot divorce them... because one it might be legal to the govt that you are divorced, but you PROMISED God... you can't take a promise back... so that means you also cannot remarry or have a relationship with someone else... it'd be adultery, and you can't be married to two people... if you do remarry God will not recognize the second marriage, because you are already a married soul... and then you'll be living in sin with this other person...

it's not that we are trying to be "mean" or jerks or anything of that matter.. we just believe what God tells us... and this is the truth... a borken promise to God is very detrimental to one's soul... I understand the hard situation, but more than likely there was warning signs before the wedding...

Besides God doesn't promise us things, and then take them back does He...

Marriage is a sacred thing, too many people these days act like its no big deal... but it truly is... we have allowed sin to corrupt us..

spending the rest of eternity with God in heaven is worth more than selfishness here on earth... would you rather be some what happy on earth, lead a life of sin, and burn in hell forever? or would you rather do a little suffering here, but know you live a good life, and spend eternity in the happiness and presence of God in heaven? thats up to you... but i don't think having to be single the rest of your life is bad at all compared to damnation. sorry, but the truth hurts.

Jesus said that Only reason to divorce your husband or wife is when one cheated on the other. But this does not give one person the right to beat the other. So A person should leave that abuse and try to get that person to get help. If the refuse then they need to check there own faith and go where they believe is allowed.

I can't imagine a lot of christians would say that. That guy sounds like an idiot and like many on yahoo answers was trying to incite anger and prejudice. But there are misguided people in all religions and atheists too. Some take the message and twist it to their evil ends. Take the title of the book Eats Shoots and Leaves. Now depending on where you put the comma it becomes something completely different. If you take the message in the bible and twist it to your own end that is wrong. This man sounds like he was doing that. He probably abused his wife and she left him. Now he's pissed and the thought of condemning her to hell makes him happy.

Most likely she did not chose wisely, but he could have developed into a monster all by himself after marriage.

But that is NOT the point! Women should not stay in an abusive relationship period.

There are remedies within the Church for such situations.

The original marriage can be annulled in many situations.

According to many experts some women like to pick abusive or controlling partners. The good girl bad guy syndrome.

Do we just allow this to continue!

The man should be imprisoned, plain and simple.

I asked a Pator from Biola University (a Christian College in California) this same thing! This is not true. God does not want us to stay in a bad releationship. The truth bibically would be that she can get a divorce but she would not be able to marry again and have sex until he died otherwise she would be committing adultery. I know this sounds harsh also for the woman but I think that it is a small price to pay and it ensures a wonderful afterlife if she is a true Christian!

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. And I just love that a Christian "man" said it, sure he's not the one getting the crap beat out of him. It is perfectly fine for that woman to get her and her children out of the house and far away from that man.

I don't know who the man is but he doesn't go by the Bible. Nowhere in the Bible does it say to do these things.
People like that are the ones that give religion a bad name.
If a person uses a person like him to judge religion, he or she is no better than they are.

To me, that is just plain ignorant. A real man does not beat, a real man does not hit, a real man does not demean.

It is this simple.

Get hit? Get out.
