Im doing a tv series thing and would like a new cam but I think a normal videocam (eg handycam) isnt good enough but Im not sure and whats the price difference? I know that they are probably more expensive but it would be worth it if its better quality as it will go on tv...

I have 3, 000 euros to spend but would prefer to save some for other stuff....

If you are doing a TV Series I think that with this budget you better consider buying and not renting. Inexpensive Sony PD-170 would be my first choice if I'm In Europe as long as you use either standard PAL or NTSC formats that this camera offers. 3000 Euros is more that enough to cover camera, wide angle lens, case and lots of Mini DVCAM tapes. (You can also use MiniDV tapes)

i think you'll be fine with a canon xl2. however, canon came out with a new cam called the xh A1, which is around $3999 (so around 3000-3200 euros). the xh A1 is good if your planning to shoot HD footage, and the xl2 is good for most other purposes.

basically, pro cameras (well, in this case prosumer, since actual pro cameras would be way out of your budget limits) have 3ccds (or cmos), larger ccds, more manual functions, at least mic inputs, and have interchangeable or at least higher level lenses. theres probably some things i didnt mention, but thats most of it. hope this helps!
