I think the question that needs asking is, is he one of the most evil people on earth. He protects paedophiles, encourages multiple children in societies where poverty if rife and expects all of his edicts to be followed blindly. The catholic hierarchy seem only interested in what they can gain, be it financial or materially.

The Pope is not necessarily regarded as more godly than any one else, though most Popes have indeed been very godly men. A few have not been. When the cardinals meet to select a new Pope it isn't a "godliness contest". It is simply a matter of discerning which sinner God has chosen to follow in the footsteps of Peter, another sinner, as the visible pastor of Christ's Church, over which Christ Himself is the true Head.

He is not regarded as more Godly... He is respected because he is the chosen leader of the Catholic Church. The "choosing" of the Pope is through solemn prayer of the Bishops inside the Sistine Chapel. No interaction is done between the Bishops and only each one's silent prayer is done to enlighten each Bishop which candidate is to choose for the Papacy. It is a successful votation when a unanimous candidate is chosen.

Hi Bandares...Spanish and thinking like this??????? He has a bullet proof perspex glass on the pope mobile because people outside catholicism tried to murder the last pope. dont you remember? Pope the man is fallible as anyone else but he is nearer to god than we are because he has delved deeply into the religion and believes whole heartedly into it. We have not done this and tend to question certain beliefs.

I am a Catholic.

This is another bashing question based on an incorrect assumption.

The Pope is a man just like you and me.

If you really want to know what Catholics believe, do a quick read of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

It is all there in black and white for anyone to read.

Yet there still people who only want to bash what they do not understand.

Peace, and God Bless you all.

Well, this surely only applies for Catholics, and perhaps other Christians. For many of us though he is just the head of a corrupt, and at times dangerous, institution with great power and influence that it uses for responsibly and irresponsibly in the name of an intangible, and seemingly mythical, being as described in an ancient book written by men.

For me, that makes the Pope a man in funny little garbs who has far to much power who does not warrent the status awarded him.

hi Lioness, i attempted to discover "objectified" and "objectification" in the dictionary and no exhilaration. properly, i'm not precisely specific I understand your queston, yet think of i'd have an concept. besides, have you ever heard of the "bell curve"? that's a curve that's formed like a bell and does a competent pastime of representing archives. As for splendor, at one end of the curve we've the least alluring and on the different end the main. the comparable would be genuine for earnings ... poorest on one area and richest on the different. in direction of the bell we've each and all the conventional people. i think of what you're announcing is genuine, yet in basic terms in basic terms a certainty of existence. we've the comprehensive spectrum for the two genders. As for why adult males do not protest ... i think they comprehend that it somewhat is in basic terms the way issues are and protests at the instant are not likely to alter something. wish this facilitates!

The Pope is not considered more Godly than anyone else.

However, the Pope is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter.

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:17-19)

The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.

With love in Christ.

It's got something to do with what the Cardinals are smoking or something.
White smoke = some good ****
Grey smoke = A new pope

I gotta get me some of that grey stuff!

You don't get it, do you? The word you tried to write- regarded- is the key to your answer. Regarded by whom? By the men who voted him into office. These are men who consider themselves to be more godly than the other members of their respective communities and they chose one of their number to be an international representative. Or do you not understand politics, either?
