This is to increase blood flow to the injured area. Blood contains many components that help heal an injured tissue such as white blood cells (lymphocytes, neutrophils, etc.) and platelets...it is part of our normal immune response.

the capillaries dialate and often the cells of the vessel separate to allow the infected area to be bathed in white blood cells, this is why inflamation occurs and the area appears red and hot to the touch.
