If the God that christians all claim to know so well is suppossed to be a God of love - why do his followers spend so much time stewing in hatred of people who are simply different than they are?

Gandhi once said that if everybody lived by the 'sermon on the mount' there would be no violence, war etc and the world would be peaceful(or words to that effect). That tells us a couple of things. 1. The bible teaches peace. 2. People (religion) are not doing that. 3. Find A faith that does follow the bible 100% and who are peaceful. The problem is that 99% of religions take out of the bible only the bits they like and that's why we see Priests blessing wars, Homosexuality being condoned and belief's like Hell Fire and an Immortal spirit being taught.

As for why people hate Christians:
Jhn 15:18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.
Jhn 15:19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

This is because most people are incredibly stupid and xenophobic. Therefore any group of people will seem stupid and xenophobic--especially since that's what gets the most airtime.
For example, Yahoo! answers is also filled with stupid, xenophobic questions (such as this one), and such questions usually get the most answers.

Who do? Hate will eat you up and spit you out. It's easy to spot a person who is afraid to live. Turn around before it's to late. Do you realize that every time you attack Christians they respond in truth and love. If your so against God, then why do you read what Christians have to say. Keep asking and keep reading it will minister to you.

We do not 'stew in hatred of people', we simply dislike their sin. Whether you like it or not, we are required to love you, even if we don't like you.

You find that in almost every religion, and the truth is that it's not the majority of them, it's a very loud minority of the group. If you close your eyes and listen very carefully you can reach past the loud screams of the negative banter and hear the gentle sounds of the loving ones.

Growing up in a Catholic environment, I've observed the fear that is instilled in a young mind. I think the week minded are the ones that are also consumed with hatred, in any religion.

Because Christians are taught that:
1. Peace can only be achieved through war;
2. Executions demonstrate the sanctity of human life;
3. The human body is a temple that is not to be worshiped;
and,
4. Love can only be expressed by hating, vilifying, torturing &/or killing people, in Jesus' name, of course.
It says so in the "word of God."
