There must be some place in town (hall of records, city clerk) where they keep all kinds of records (birth / death / marriage / divorce), you could try going there, maybe they can point you in the right direction to search. Also, check if there are any genealogy clubs, they can help.

You do not say how old you are, but there must be some family, old friends of the family, someone from whom you can get more advice. But whatever you are going to do, do it immediately, do not lose any time. I spent years looking for my mother, with about the same amount of knowledge that you have of your mother. When I eventually tracked her down, I discovered that she had died several years earlier. I was devastated. Do not waste time. Good luck to you.
