Some people just can't handle the truth. I once was told off by a guy that I am not tactful in my conversation just because I am telling the truth or being honest with him. He considered me as being rude and tactless.
Initially, I am angry with him but after serious thought I think some of us are living in a stressful environment and in order to survive in this concrete world we need to mask our feeling/thoughts. Thus, when a person is telling the truth they think we are rude or sarcastic because the message was not "filtered" to their understanding.
Just stand to your belief, I am sure there are some people who can take the truth. Open communication is still the best to prevent conflict.

I am brutally honest. And I don't care if it's rude. To me it is better to be rude and honest than to play around and make people feel falsely better. At least they will know if I say I like something I mean it.

There are ways of being polite without lying.

Let's say I had the choice between;

1. A guy who was honest and loved me and said all nice things and meant them.
2. A guy who lied and made me feel loved and said all nice things and made you feel like he meant them.

Of course everyone want number 1. Don't you think it is MUCH more rude to make someone else feel good by a lie? I do. That is why I am rather rude and honest myself, and look for a guy whos truth I like.

P.S. Don't forget that Simon Cowell was usually right. He also apologized when he wasn't.

depends:
sometimes being honest is not the best option, and sometimes it doesnt help and sometimes it is rude. thats just how it it sometimes lol.

its just some people are very sensitive so i kinda gotta ease up.
cos yeah, i do come across as rude when im being 'strait up' with someone.

ive figured out, it comes down to how i say it and in the tone.
if im relaxed cool, and soften what i say, i can be honest even it its not what they want to hear, but at least i can be me and say what i say.

hope that helps, dave

There are these things called "white lies". In my opinion, they are the courteous lies that you use in order not to hurt someones feelings. The famous question by the female "Do I look fat in this?", either way you lose, but never yes even if she looks like a cow wearing spandex, honesty is important, but there is a fine line between being honest and brutally honest, not everyone can handle brutally honest.

Being brutally honest on a negative issue puts people off. that is life. so its better to choose the words carefully to minimize hurting the other person

Plain and simple -- the truth hurts and some people simply can't handle it.

There is also risk you take when approaching someone with complete honesty -- they might counter with it.

o.k., so i'm rude. tell me something i DON'T know.

i figure it like this:
if someone asks me 'do i look fat in this?' and she does, if i let her go out in public like that , it's a reflection on me because i was the one asked first.
now, there is a difference between looking fat and having something not made for that body type. in this instance i would say something like ' yes. try this on instead.'

The simple reason is: We are often lying to our ourselves too.

The truth never comes out clean from our mouth.
