Enforcing employer sanctions is a good start, but will not solve the problem. Until the root underlying social-economic problems are addressed the problem will continue to grow.

Absolutely, and the fines should be significant enough to actually have an effect. It is any easy process to verify things like ss numbers and if an employer doesn't verify it usually means he didn't want to. Most employers know when they're hiring an illegal but simply don't care because they know that they can pay less and treat the employee as they see fit with little recourse available to the employee. Until we have a system in place to require employers to verify citizenship status and to fine employers a significant amount for knowingly hiring illegals this problem will not go away. It would be 100 times more effective than any fence if employers knew they could end up out of business because of an INS raid,we would end up with 12 million people deporting themselves when no work was available to illegal aliens.

Yes,I most definitely think the excising laws against the company's and individuals that hire illegal immigrants, must be enforced.Enforced with zero tolerance and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.My husband and I both own business and we are always on guard against false or forged papers. Its not difficult to find out the authenticity of someones papers if you aren't too lazy to check..Cheap hired labor isn't cheap ,in Arizona where you can be fined $14,000.00 per illegal, found in your employment.I for one believe that in a labor work force you get what you pay for,I don't need added problems that come from hiring illegals .Unless the dangling carrot of employment is removed, the illegals will just keep coming. And I know it seems to put the burden on one and not the other. But think of it this way, with out the promise of a job where they can make more in a day than they can all week in their own country, why would they risk the crossing.Unless they only had criminal activities in mind. The hard core criminal element of any nationality is still going to come but they are easier to locate and arrest because of the crimes they commit.
Any thing that can be any possible deterrent is a good thing.

If they are Knowingly hiring illegals then Yes. There are many companies out here that know what they are doing. They should be punished for breaking the law.
I seriously do not understand why employers can not find out within a week that the person they are hiring has a fake SS card/papers.
Heck go to a car lot and give them your SS number they can bring up everything about you, but an employer can't?? I'm not buying it.
And if they want to keep their business I suggest they start actually looking into the people they hire.

There are already penalties on the books. An employer is supposed to have an I-9 form filled out for each employee. The employee has to show either an work permit or a social security card or other documentation proving that they can work in this country legally. If the employer doesn't have those on file he can be fined each day for each violation.
The laws are there. They just need to be enforced.

It becomes their responsibility to see that the prospective employee has proper documentation and that the "numbers match the name"
I believe most employers knowing hire illegals. There needs to be provisions, however, for those who were duped by good counterfeit ID. I would hate to see innocent employers victimized by this.
The whole issue with illegals is the vast numbers of people who are hurt by their presence here. From identity theft against millions of Americans...to our citizens who have had crimes committed against them by those who simply should not be here....from draining our financial resources to putting Americans out of work because the illegals undercut the system....
It's a mess and it will take a lot more anger and demanding from us to keep the lawmakers and peace keepers moving in the right direction.

Yes. I think the employers should be held responsible for hiring illegals. The fact that they don't speak English should be red-flag enough to send any documentation to the Department of Labor.

from a humane point of view no, from a political point of view yes. humanely or morally, people migrate to other countries and places just to improve their standard of living and if people migrate and find a legit job with which they can contribute to taxes and social welfare, then they should be left to stay.
From a political point of view, yes, because over periods of time, migrants most-times don't integrate into their adopted society and therefore becoming another segmented faction of society. So the best way to forestall future misgivings is to weed migrant workers without proper documentation, this reduces migration. Sanctions against employers who hire illegals is proper for various reasons: cut down of human trafficking and modern slavery, and check immigration
