If her children can't take care of her on a daily basis there is nothing wrong with putting her in a care home. In most alzheimers cases the patient is eventually put in a care home when they reach the point where they need to be looked after a lot, so don't worry about it. It would be nice to still visit her sometimes though and not just leave her there completely out of touch with her family.

If there is nothing you or your family can do for her then put her in a home but check the place first. Look it up and see if they have any complaints against them or criminal or civil cases pending on them. I'm sure your better business bureau or board of health can help you with this. Check the place out and be sure it's clean and the patients look well cared for.

And above all make your decision based on logic and reason, not because your imaginary friend in the sky said so. A human life is at stake.

My wife and I made the opposite choice, my mother-in-law also has dementia and many health problems, but we have made the decision to take care of her for the rest of her life. She has lived with us 9 years this month.

It is a difficult decision you face, but in our case, we would not change a thing.

Grace and Peace
