You should take him to the vet and have him tested for a thyroid problem, and like other people said, for worms. You may have to resort to not leaving food out for him. Too much weight is as bad for our furry friends as it is for humans. He may have had to fight for food as a kitten and just needs to be reassured that he has no competition. Some playtime will help with this. As for being a purebreed, I really can't say. I used to have a brown tiger-striped tabby that was known as a "Hemingway cat" because he had six toes on his front paws. He was 16 pounds of lean muscle, and the vet said his paws were like mittens.

i have an orange tabby and i also had one when i was a little girl...ive noticed orange tabbys are very vocal and demanding (the one i have now is part siamese)...they also love to eat and are the most common overweight cat..its not really a breed though, they are amoung other tabbys (grey tiger, american short hair, etc). Ive also found orange tabbys are the most loveable, effectionate, and playful...this cat will bring you alot of joy, laughter and love, have fun! You might be able to stop by your local pet store and pick up a small facts book, or you can try searching online for some pet tips and fun facts!

A tabby cat is just a domestic cat -most are DSH - Domestic Short Haired. Not a pure breed, the cat equivalent of a mutt.

tabby is a colour not a breed. Feed him tinned food twice a day morning and evening and leave a bowl of kibble with another bowl of fresh clean water available at all times. Am I right in understanding that you took on an animals without doing any research into how to care for it?

i don't know about your cat but i see a lot of orange tabby barn cats in my area. i know you can get a pure bred orange tabby, though. a vet could probably tell you. as for eating all day, cats are nibblers, unlike us who eat big meals. i always keep some food in my cats bowl and she just wanders over and takes a few bites every once in a while.

i absolutely love orange tabbys - have one right here behind me taking 2/3 of my seat... Orange tabbys are either DLH or DSH (Domestic Short/Long Hair). I am convinced they make the most fantastic pet cat: lovable, smart, loyal, tough... but yeah... they do eat a lot so they tend to grow on the fat side, but maybe that's becuase most - if not ALL - orange tabbys are MALE - notice that?

Sounds like a moggy to me. Do you know the history of the cat? may need 'worming' check out the stools for little rice-like worms. Dont worry worming is not as bad as it sounds - just have to get the tablet down its throat - good luck !!

Tabbys are American shorthairs. It is most likely a mixed breed. That does seem like excessive eating but he is still growing. Make sure you are feeding him a quality cat food like Iams or Science Ditet. Don't feed him table scraps.

If he's eating like a maniac he might have WORMS. Have you gotten him checked out by a vet yet??
