Jesus wasn't his name. It was the name Roman translators gave to him. It is clearly a Latinized version of his Aramaic name. He was probably called Yehoshuah. I've no idea about surnames.

Who knows, but according to the OT the Messiah that the author of Matthew speaks of was supposed to be called "Immanuel" meaning-God is with us.

Isaiah13 "Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you [a] a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and [b] will call him Immanuel. [c] 15 He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right.
16 But before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste. 17 The LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah—he will bring the king of Assyria."

18 In that day the LORD will whistle for flies from the distant streams of Egypt and for bees from the land of Assyria. 19 They will all come and settle in the steep ravines and in the crevices in the rocks, on all the thornbushes and at all the water holes. 20 In that day the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the River [f] —the king of Assyria—to shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to take off your beards also. 21 In that day, a man will keep alive a young cow and two goats. 22 And because of the abundance of the milk they give, he will have curds to eat. All who remain in the land will eat curds and honey. 23 In that day, in every place where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels, [g] there will be only briers and thorns. 24 Men will go there with bow and arrow, for the land will be covered with briers and thorns. 25 As for all the hills once cultivated by the hoe, you will no longer go there for fear of the briers and thorns; they will become places where cattle are turned loose and where sheep run.

Uh-oh...the anonymous author of Matthew left out a few 'messianic requirements' now, didn't he? A quick read of Isaiah Chapter 8 will show that the author of Isaiah, pretty much concluded that that particular prophecy was fulfilled (whether it actually happened or not . You see, the prophecy was to King Ahaz, it had nothing to do with Jesus.

Even in the old days it was common for cut 'n' paste jobs, the author of Matthew takes a snippet from Isaiah, slaps it into his writings and said that it was 'fulfilled'. What a crock!

As Marvin R mentioned, this is the name God told his earthly parents to give him. Jesus is the Latinized form of the Greek Iesous which corresponds to the Hebrew Jeshua (Jehoshuah) or Yeshua (Yehoshuah) It has a meaning as did all Biblical names. Jehoshuah means Jehovah is Salvation. Or Yehoshuah – Yahweh is Salvation.

The Bible does not report on any surname for Jesus.

JESUS is the name above all names. What's in a name?
A name does more than simply identify a person. Often a name evokes the image of a person, or memories tied to that person. Jesus was not such an unusual name in scriptural times. In the Old Testament, Hebrew names such as Joshua, Jehoshua, and Jeshua are simply variations of Jesus. JUst because the name itself is fairly common, meaning "God's salvation" or "God is my help," the person of Jesus the Messiah is unique. Jesus is the avenue for God's salvation of sinful man. The name at once emphasizes Jesus' commonness - He is born the Son of Man, a man among men - and Jesus' uniqueness. This man Jesus is born to redeem man to eternal life. The name Jesus was appointed by God for His Son it is no accident that our Lord was called by the name Jesus. That name sums up the things which He came into the world to do and which only He can do.

This sounds like an expression of a few type yet here is what I take from it. a million) "no person comes except God draw him" Jesus is the coolest Shepherd, and his sheep comprehend His voice. while He calls, they pay attention (John 10). The sheep do no longer flow finding for the shepherd, somewhat the shepherd calls out to His lost sheep. God makes the 1st flow. He loves us first, then we respond . 2) The spirit lives in believers 3) back, Jesus contains us. Sinful guy does not come to him until He contains us. Our spiritually lifeless hearts can no longer elect for Christ until they're made alive in the path of the means of the Holy Spirit
