Find out the collection company who has this and pay it. That will bring your score up a little and will show that you have paid your debt. I had 2 utility bills that did not get paid because I moved and I had no knowledge of them because I thought that I had paid my final bill. When I went to buy a house these showed up on my credit report as being sent for collection. I paid them and I added a consumer statement to my credit report for all to see explaining that I never rec. my final bill.
You are entitled to add a consumer statement to your credit report explaining any and all derogatory information. It will take about 30 days for the payment to show on your report so give it some time to post before you attempt to add the consumer statement. Make sure you send it to all three credit bureaus. Companies who claim they can clean up your credit are a big scam so do go that route. The only one who can clean up your credit is you!! It just takes a little time and effort.
No one except the credit burea can give you an answer as to how many points your score will go up from this. Your score is based on a lot of factors. Hope this info helps you.

No, it'll be there for the whole amount of time usually. I have had one or two things not show up and I am not sure why. In my stupidity I got a phone for someone in my name and she ran up a $600 bill somehow and I just had the phones shut off (mine had to go too with that company). I havent ever seen that on my report. By the way I sued her and she never showed and then she sent me like $200 but that was it. Oh well, live and learn.

Also, why didnt you just pay it? It wasnt a huge amount of money and if you are concerned about your credit sometimes you have to bite the bullet. Saying that I will add that someone used my name to open a regular land line phone account and then owed like $50. I had no idea who did it (found out it was a family member >:( ) but I couldnt prove it wasnt me. It was BS and I told the company to shove it up their @ss and I wasnt paying it. Good thing was I hadnt caught it until it had already been on there for like 5-6 years so when they biatch at the company got an attitude with me and said "oh yeah, well why dont you go down to the library and see how long its gonna be on your credit report for?!" I said it's been on there this long so it might as well stay for another year. Damn that "lady" pissed me off.

Charge offs are tricky becuase normally you can't pay them and 'fix' the mistake. .. but you can try to contact them and see if you give them $68 if they will remove it.

Other than that, sit tight and wait. If its 6 years old, its not having a HUGE effect anymore, like if it was more recent.

Disregard all other answers.

If it was within the past 12 months, PAY it. Your scores will go up.

If it was over 12 months ago, don't pay it or your scores will drop.

there are some companies that advertise they can repair your credit score at a price, not sure if they are reputable tho as there will be some record of it.
If this has already been recorded there will be a trace if it is removed which can also count against you.
