I just posted this to a similar question here... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AubYYCR.GPRTmwDSc30B2rDsy6IX?qid=20061004125229AA6Grkd

Best place, talk to people themselves...but you'll have to know who you want to hear from since many tribes/Nations can vary greatly.

But we warned, because... "I am interested mainly in their religious and spiritual beliefs" will likely not be looked at kindly by some/many/all. People already deal with too many people that want, exploit, and sometimes profit off their cultures. Some things are not for knowledge of people outside their cultures and their ways should not be practiced by others. Although some may not have a problem with your just wanting to learn about things if it ends with just understanding their ways and that's it.

Or this is at least as far as I have heard from some people...

there are a number of books being written about this subject. the spirituality is easier to obtain than the " secrets " just like any other Religious Belief System. remember too there were over 500 different branches of THE PEOPLE before the European
" invaders " arrived and each had their own rituals and ceremonies just like the different Christian denominations of today. since the Christian Religion has " tainted " the original Native People's Religion imagine it would be quite hard to find a " pure " Native American Religious Belief System. even if one did might be extremely difficult to enter.

native american indians are pretty secretive, your unlikely to find more than the most basic and general stuff.

the "secrets" are called that for a reason.... its hard to find the "secrets" of judeo-christain spiritualitys and such... (the good/real ones anyway) and those are ALOT more out in the open.

from everything I've come to understand, if your in a place to ask, especially like that... you don't, and you might as well give up trying.
