Of course they are. Diets only exist because most people are greedy. The most simple diet in the world is to eat less. Instead of having 6 roast potatoes, have 3. Dont have 5 biscuits, have 2. Not very difficult, just takes a bit of self control.

The word "diet" should be banned from the English language. It simply exudes negativity from the majority of people who hear it. (= I'm not saying some of us don't need to diet, 'cause we do, but most people on a diet will end up doing themselves more (mental and possibly physical) harm than good.
So here's to forgoing the constant dieting and instead just treating your body well: eating good foods (that includes chocolate) and getting off your butt every once in a while to enjoy the gorgeous outdoors.

Yes diets are over rated. Following any program that does not allow for some of what we like to eat, and depriving yourself is a recipe for failure.
When I set out to lose weight I reasearched as many diets I could find and came up with something that worked for me. Because I will not tell myself I can't have something if I am really craving it. I just reduced my calorie intake to a healthy level. Everyone is different though.
Your best bet is healthy eating, regular exercise, and the ocassional treat. Basically expend more energy than you consume.

Well considering that your "diet" is what you eat/drink everyday, no they are not overrated because if you didn't have a diet you would be starving to death.
But a healthy diet is not at all overrated, and by that I mean one of moderation, including lots of water, fresh veg and fruit and home cooked meals as well as the odd ice cream or biscuit. You are what you eat and binge dieting or overeating can both cause long term damage and disease.
Diet regimes that cut out entire food groups are not only overrated but also completely unnecessary, unless you are allergic or intollerant to something.

One of my daughters has a PhD in Food Science and lectures on nutrition. I think her advice (I guess subject to any special medical problems) would be to stick to a balanced diet, which would include plenty of fruit, veg. and water. The Belgian chocolate would be O.K., but don't start on the 3rd. bar for another week (dark chocolate would be better for you). If you are fit and not overweight you've nothing to worry about. So the answer is be honest about that last comment and don't worry about special diets, some of which are, yes, overrated.

Yes! Mainly commercial rip-offs. A market that many companies have noticed a void in during the last decade and so took it upon themselves to exploit.
More exercise + less junk food = better health
Feel free to eat whatever you want if you're gonna spend 4 hours in the gym everyday. Most diets are basic common sense anyway. I'd never pay for a book to tell me how to eat properly! I know how to eat already, and I know what to to do when I want to burn off excess pounds

ABSOLUTELY!! Anything with the word "die" in it cant be good for you!! Duh!
I put on 100 lbs my last 3 years of college after deciding to lose my freshman 20 lbs. dieted then decided to become a vegetarian, exercise and eat "healthy".
One year out of college, broke and depressed about my weight, I decided not to worry about dieting anymore. I went back to the food I loved best, roast beef, mashed potatoes, cheese, chocolate cake, etc. I lost all 100 lbs plus 30 extra in one year!! I haven't gained it back in 11 years.
Lesson: eat what you crave, because your body wants it for some reason (chocolate is good for you), you'll be satisfied and then you won't want to clean out the refrigerator at 3am!!
