For someone who is bipolar, this is normal for them. Bipolars have many different emotions that don't seem to be appropriate for the time and the occasion- at times. Just let her know that you are there for her. Please try not to take it out on your girlfriend when she behaves in a way that doesn't seem appropriate and remember, she is sick.

The first poster displayed extreme ignorance. There is nothing funny about that.

I'm sorry - that doesn't sound like an easy situation. Is she seeing a therapist? I had a bi polar friend and he would go through highs and lows, though his were more spaced out. Is she in the middle of adjusting to a new medication? If so, that may be why she's on such an intense emotional roller coaster.

Regarding the sex, however, I would recommend sitting down with her (in an non-confrontational way) and talking to her about why she would try to get it from someone else if you don't want to have sex with her because she's crying. I can tell you are upset about this and you want her to be happy, so perhaps also explain this to her, but also explain to her how you feel when she's crying during sex and if there's anything you two can do to resolve that. Ask her if there is a reason she is crying during sex - if she is thinking about something that is bothering her, or if she just gets sad suddenly. If it's the latter, suggest she discuss it with her therapist to try and work through that as it might be a subconscious problem.

Also, lithium is a very intense drug - have they given her anything to counteract its effects? If not, perhaps this is something she can discuss with her doctor so she can get something that will balance out the levels in her system because lithium manly works with the manic side of bi polar disease. I hope this helps.

If she is enjoying the sex, then it is just a release of emotions that are difficult to let out or express at other times. It should be a good experience for you both, so each of you must be content with this sexual relationship for it to work.

OK Ignore the relgious bible thumpers below me.

I have bi-polar, and i have sex just fine. Perhaps it is her medication? Perhaps it is problems in the relationship? Perhaps she is maniac depressive? And she prolly said the last part because she was upset. I would try to convince her to go see a doctor, she might just need to get her doses adjusted or get put on a different medication, or perhaps she needs counseling and the sex is triggering some sort of memory?

her medicine probably just takes care of some of her symptoms. it could just be evening out her emotions, if this is true, then she would be a hell of alot worse without them. meds wont get her "normal" just closer to it.
ummm but either way she sounds rlly selfish, if you dont want to do it then you shouldnt have to. you should find someone that respects you more.
good luck!

Sometimes, crying during or after sex, is just scrambled emotions being released, nothing more. It probably would have went away if you'd been a bit more caring.
