It is used for sashimi. A seasoning for raw fish often eaten in Hawaii. Also in Filipino foods such as chicken platter dishes which are also popular in Hawaii.

It is MSG or mono sodium glutamate used mainly in chinese cooking for noodles,rice etc for enhancement and retention of flavor, it is safe to use sparingly , but using in higher quantities is supposed to cause health problems.

It originates from Japan, got lots of MSG and gets you giddy (overdose) or extremely sluggish after a meal. Not good, there are claims of hair loss and indigestion but I have not of the cancer link yet.
Almost forgot, one immediate reaction is a unquencable thrist after taking lots of it.

it is a chinese ingrediant with no smell just like salt but is used to improve the taste and flavour of any dish that is cooked.
